Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing this letter to apply for a job which you had posted in a Australian magazine to look after a six years old child.
To begin with, I am a student of early childhood education. I am a 25 year old and love child on top of it I raised my siblings too. As I always wonder to take care of children I like this job.
Firstly, As I am an international student in Australia I need some money to cover my expenses. Moreover, it is connected with my course. I also have some reference to share where i had worked before and you can check my punctuality.
Initially i will spend my time with my studies and assignments and left over time i would like to work at your home and after that if anything left time i would like to spend it for shopping and travelling.
If you need any further details please don't hesitate to contact me. i am sharing my enrollment letter with this letter.
Thank you
Yours faithfully,
Zach

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have addressed all three bullet points of the prompt: explaining your motivation, detailing your suitability, and describing your free time. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, while you mention being a student of early childhood education, you could have elaborated more on specific skills or experiences that make you a great fit for a six-year-old. The explanation of your free time is also quite brief. To reach a higher band, ensure that each point is fully extended with more descriptive detail rather than just listing facts. Overall, the tone is appropriate for a formal letter, and the purpose of the communication is clear throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your points. You use some basic cohesive devices like 'To begin with', 'Firstly', and 'Moreover' to connect your ideas. However, the transition between the second and third paragraphs is a bit abrupt, and the flow within paragraphs could be smoother. Some sentences feel slightly disconnected, and the use of referencing is occasionally mechanical. To improve, try to vary your linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that flows naturally into the next, creating a more cohesive narrative throughout the letter.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate your message clearly. You use some relevant terms such as 'early childhood education', 'punctuality', and 'enrollment letter'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'love child' (should be 'love working with children') and 'always wonder to take care' (likely meant 'always wanted'). The range of vocabulary is somewhat limited and relies on basic structures. To achieve a higher score, try to incorporate more precise collocations and a wider variety of topic-specific vocabulary related to childcare and professional applications.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'a Australian magazine' (should be 'an'), 'six years old child' (should be 'six-year-old child'), and 'if anything left time' (should be 'if I have any spare time'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with capitalization and comma usage. While these errors do not prevent communication, they are frequent enough to impact the overall fluency of the text. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and article usage will help improve your accuracy.
