Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to show my interest in a job to look after your six-year-old child and stay with your family.
I would like to do this job because I already have previous child-care experience, where I cared for three children efficiently with extreme care. So, I have the required exceptional skills to handle this task.
Apart from that, I would be the perfect person to employ and live with your family. The foremost reason is that I do every single task at my home, from cleaning the house to preparing the food dishes for my son and daughter. Thus, I can assist you in organizing your bedroom and washing your utensils after dinner at night.
The sponsorship will be provided by you, and that will be a great opportunity for me to visit a beautiful country, Australia. When I come there, I would like to spend my free time on beaches, gardens and shopping centers. However, I am fond of shopping, so I will be in the shopping malls for most of the time.
I am looking forward to hearing a positive response from you.
Yours faithfully.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The letter addresses all three bullet points required by the prompt. You clearly explain your motivation, provide relevant personal details regarding your suitability, and describe your plans for free time. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter, although the transition to discussing household chores feels slightly abrupt. To reach a higher band, ensure that your ideas are more fully developed; for instance, instead of just listing chores, you could elaborate on how your experience with your own children translates into specific caregiving strategies for a six-year-old. Overall, the response is relevant and fulfills the requirements of the task effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized, with each paragraph focusing on a specific requirement of the prompt. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Apart from that', 'Thus', and 'However' to link your ideas. While the progression of ideas is clear, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes a bit mechanical. To improve, try to vary your linking words and ensure that the transition between your personal experience and your offer to help with housework is smoother. Paragraphing is used appropriately, which helps the reader follow your argument without difficulty.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'efficiently', 'exceptional skills', and 'sponsorship'. However, there are some minor issues with word choice and collocation. For example, 'washing your utensils' is slightly unnatural; 'doing the dishes' or 'cleaning up after meals' would be more idiomatic. Similarly, 'preparing the food dishes' is redundant. While your vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, incorporating more precise, natural collocations would elevate your writing to a higher band level.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. Most of your sentences are clear and error-free, which ensures that communication is never impeded. There are a few minor grammatical slips, such as 'I will be in the shopping malls for most of the time', which could be more naturally phrased as 'I will spend most of my time in shopping malls'. Your control over punctuation and sentence structure is generally good, and you show an ability to construct coherent, multi-clause sentences effectively.
