Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The letter successfully addresses all three bullet points required by the prompt. You clearly explain your motivation for wanting the job, provide relevant personal qualities that make you a suitable candidate, and outline your plans for your free time in Australia. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter of application. The ideas are relevant and well-developed, though some sections could benefit from slightly more detail to fully reach the higher band descriptors. For instance, while you mention being 'responsible' and 'patient,' providing a brief, concrete example of your childcare experience would have strengthened your candidacy further. Overall, the response is purposeful and meets all task requirements effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs for each requirement, and a formal closing. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the prompt, which aids readability. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'At the outset,' 'In addition,' and 'Furthermore' to link your ideas. However, the flow could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that transitions between sentences are smoother. The paragraphing is appropriate, and the overall structure is easy to follow, which is a key requirement for this band level.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'position,' 'experience,' and 'cultural.' There are some minor errors in word choice and form, such as 'six year child' (should be 'six-year-old child') and 'fosters vocabulary' (which is slightly unnatural in this context). Additionally, 'endless thoughts' is a bit vague. To improve, try to incorporate more precise collocations and topic-specific vocabulary related to childcare and travel. While your vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, it lacks the flexibility and sophistication required for higher band scores.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While many sentences are clear, there are several grammatical slips, such as 'I would also love the opportunity to experience Australian cultural and lifestyle' (should be 'culture and lifestyle') and 'prepare simple meal' (should be 'prepare simple meals'). The closing 'Your faithfully' is also incorrect; it should be 'Yours faithfully.' These errors do not impede communication, but they indicate a need for more careful proofreading of basic subject-verb agreement and pluralization. Increasing the variety of complex structures while maintaining accuracy will help you achieve a higher score.
