Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Madam,
I am eagerly looking for a job and as soon as I saw an advertisement in newspaper that you are looking for someone to look back after your six month child, I really couldn’t wait to write you.
I am a mid thirty woman who has a work experience of working as child care taker previously too and I find myself happy around children’s. So, I would like to request you to provide me an opportunity to work for you and the baby.
I find myself a better person for this job as I love kids so much and already have the experience in child care. Also, this job will provide me with time for exploring the city too. I had a long back dream of visiting Australia and seeing the place which this job will provide me .
I request you to fulfill my dreams by giving me an opportunity for job and will sure you won’t regret.
Yours faithfully
Mr cuz

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The letter addresses all three bullet points of the prompt: explaining the interest in the job, detailing suitability, and describing plans for free time. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For example, the description of free time is vague, mentioning only 'exploring the city' and 'seeing the place'. Additionally, there is a factual error in the prompt interpretation; you mention a 'six month child' instead of a 'six-year-old child'. While the tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter, the content lacks the depth required for a higher band score. Expanding on your specific childcare experience or detailing specific Australian locations you wish to visit would have improved the response.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your points. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and limited. Transitions such as 'Also' and 'So' are used, but the flow between sentences could be smoother. The referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the phrase 'seeing the place which this job will provide me'. To improve, try using a wider variety of linking words and phrases to connect your ideas more naturally, and ensure that your pronouns clearly refer back to the intended nouns.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. There are several instances of awkward phrasing, such as 'look back after' (instead of 'look after') and 'child care taker' (instead of 'nanny' or 'childcare provider'). The phrase 'mid thirty woman' is also slightly unnatural; 'a woman in her mid-thirties' would be more standard. While the meaning is generally clear, the range of vocabulary is limited to basic terms. Incorporating more specific collocations related to childcare and professional correspondence would enhance your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The letter contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Examples include 'I am eagerly looking for a job and as soon as I saw an advertisement in newspaper' (missing articles), 'six month child' (incorrect adjective form), and 'will sure you won’t regret' (missing subject 'I'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with spacing around commas and periods. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they occur frequently enough to impact the overall clarity and professionalism of the letter.
