Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I hope you are doing well. I am writing this letter in response to your advertisement posted in Australia Daily, seeking someone to stay with you and take care of your six-year old child for six months.
I am going to shift in your neighbourhood from next month for 6 months, and for my stay I was looking for a place in a family premises, especially with kids. This opportunity could be a perfect fit for my requirement because I am a professional ECE, and a pride mother of 8 years old daughter. I have hands-on experience of handling kids of this age group for such a long time. I hope this experience would be wonderful for your kid and us.
I am very keen of wildlife photography so as I will get a chance I wish to visit some nearby wildlife sanctuary and click some memorable moments of wildlife in their own habitats.
For further more information, I attached my resume and Linkedin profile. Please let me know, if you require any references or documents, I would be more than happy.
Thanks
Ash

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The letter addresses all three bullet points required by the prompt. You clearly explain your motivation for the job, provide relevant details about your background as an ECE professional and a mother, and describe your interest in wildlife photography for your free time. The tone is appropriate for a formal application. However, the development of ideas is somewhat brief. For instance, while you mention being an ECE professional, expanding slightly on how this specific training would benefit their six-year-old would have strengthened the response. Overall, the task is fully addressed in a clear and relevant manner.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs for each requirement, and a closing. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'For further more information' and 'because', to link ideas. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical or awkward, such as 'I am going to shift in your neighbourhood'. The flow between sentences is generally smooth, and the progression of ideas is easy to follow throughout the letter.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'advertisement', 'professional ECE', and 'habitats'. There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'shift in your neighbourhood' (should be 'move to') and 'pride mother' (should be 'proud mother'). Additionally, 'keen of' is incorrect; the correct collocation is 'keen on'. While these errors are present, they do not impede communication, and you successfully convey your message using a variety of relevant terms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'I am going to shift in your neighbourhood' instead of 'move to', and 'For further more information' which is redundant. The phrase 'I am very keen of wildlife photography so as I will get a chance' is grammatically clunky and lacks necessary punctuation. While these errors are noticeable, they do not prevent the reader from understanding your meaning. To reach a higher band, focus on refining subject-verb agreement and prepositional usage.
