Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
My name is Susan, and I am writing this letter to show my interest in the job which was advertised recently in an Australian Magazine. The reason I would like the job is because I have experience as a nanny for almost six years.
Additionally, I have a bachelors degree in early childhood as well as I am fluent in multiple languages such as French, English and Spanish. It will be really beneficial for the young one to learn new language skills because it can help them later in their life. Moreover, it would provide me with an exposure to live with an Australian family that will benefit me in finding further job opportunities.
Moving further, I will be a suitable candidate for the job because I am very friendly, and can easily adapt to the surroundings. In my leisure time, I would go outside and explore the museums, and natural habitats as I am very fond of nature.
I hope you will consider me for the opportunity. I look forward to your response.
Yours faithfully,
Susan Sana

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt effectively. You clearly explained your motivation for the job, provided relevant details regarding your suitability (nanny experience and degree), and described your leisure activities in Australia. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a prospective employer. To reach a higher band, you could expand slightly more on the 'suitability' aspect by providing a specific example of a task you have handled as a nanny, which would make your application more persuasive and fully developed.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is well-organized with a logical progression of ideas. Each paragraph focuses on a specific requirement of the prompt. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Additionally', 'Moreover', and 'Moving further' to link your ideas. However, the transition 'Moving further' is slightly unnatural in this context; 'Furthermore' or 'Regarding my personal qualities' would be more appropriate. The paragraphing is clear and contributes to the overall readability of the letter. The use of referencing is generally accurate, ensuring the reader can follow your points easily.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message clearly. Phrases like 'early childhood' and 'adapt to the surroundings' are relevant. However, there are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'provide me with an exposure to live', which is slightly awkward; 'give me the opportunity to live' would be more natural. You also use 'new language skills' where 'a new language' would suffice. While the vocabulary is adequate for the task, incorporating more precise collocations would elevate your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are some grammatical slips, such as 'as well as I am fluent', which should be 'as well as being fluent'. Additionally, 'a bachelors degree' requires an apostrophe ('bachelor's degree'). You also have a minor article error in 'the young one', where 'your child' would be more natural. Despite these errors, your meaning is always clear, and the mistakes do not impede communication. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of possessives.
