Begin your letter as follows:
Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to enquire about the job advertisement you gave in a local magazine for a live-In babysitter.
I am interested to apply for this job since I believe I am a suitable candidate for it. I am moving to Australia next month to attend a six month part-time early childhood education program and therefore, looking for a job and an accommodation as well.
Not only I have three years of full-time experience in childcare, but also take care of my niece as we live in a joint family. While I get an opportunity to stay at your home, I can look after your child as well with love and care.
Although, I plan to visit some of my relatives during my free time after studies and work, I would be happy to assist you with other household chores as well if needed, since I do not mind doing house-work when we live together as a family.
Thank you for your consideration, and I look forward to hear back from you.
Kind Regards,
Rashpal Kaur

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response covers all three bullet points required by the prompt. You clearly explain your motivation for the job, provide relevant background regarding your childcare experience, and outline your plans for free time. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter. To reach a higher band, you could provide more specific details about your childcare experience, such as the age range of children you have worked with or specific activities you enjoy, to make your application more persuasive and fully developed.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. Each paragraph focuses on a specific requirement of the task. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Although', 'therefore', and 'not only... but also', which help the flow of ideas. However, the transition between the second and third paragraph could be smoother. The use of paragraphing is appropriate, and the overall progression of ideas is easy to follow throughout the letter.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'enquire', 'candidate', and 'household chores'. There are no significant errors in word choice that impede communication. To improve, you should aim to incorporate more precise or sophisticated collocations. For example, instead of 'give in a local magazine', 'advertised in a local magazine' would be more natural. Expanding your vocabulary to include more specific descriptors for your skills would enhance the quality of your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are some grammatical slips, such as 'Not only I have' (should be 'Not only do I have') and 'look forward to hear' (should be 'look forward to hearing'). Additionally, 'Although, I plan' contains an unnecessary comma. While these errors are noticeable, they do not prevent the reader from understanding your message. To improve, focus on subject-verb inversion after negative adverbials and ensure correct verb patterns after phrases like 'look forward to'.
