Student answer (Band 5.0)
Dear parents,
I would like to share one concern with you. I just saw an advertisement in Australian magazine which showed a family wants a person who can stay with them for 6 months to take care of their child as well. I like this job because they are giving salary as well as Accommodation as well. I just completed my Child care course so this is also useful for me to get experience. I am also free in the morning so i can easily manage my time and will earn in my free time.
I hope you guys understand what i am saying. I am very glad to having this job.
your Greatful

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to address all parts of the task adequately. While you mention your interest in the job and your childcare course, the development of these ideas is very limited. Crucially, you did not address how you would spend your free time in Australia, which was a specific requirement of the prompt. Furthermore, the response is significantly under the 150-word minimum, which severely limits your ability to develop your ideas. To improve, ensure you dedicate a full paragraph to each bullet point in the instructions and expand on your points with relevant details to meet the length requirement.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The letter lacks a clear structure and logical progression. The paragraphing is insufficient, and the transition between ideas is abrupt. There is a lack of cohesive devices to link sentences, making the text feel like a collection of disjointed statements rather than a cohesive letter. For example, the jump from discussing the job to mentioning your free time in the morning is sudden. To improve, use linking words such as 'furthermore', 'consequently', or 'in addition' to connect your ideas, and ensure each paragraph focuses on a single, well-developed topic.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is basic and repetitive, which restricts your ability to convey your message with precision. Phrases like 'I like this job' and 'I am very glad' are simplistic. There are also errors in word choice and formality, such as 'I hope you guys understand', which is inappropriate for a formal letter to potential employers. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use a wider range of vocabulary related to childcare and professional communication, and ensure your tone remains consistently formal throughout the letter.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. There are issues with verb forms, such as 'I am very glad to having this job' (should be 'to have'), and missing articles, such as 'in Australian magazine' (should be 'in an Australian magazine'). The sentence structures are mostly simple, with limited attempts at complex sentences. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of lowercase 'i'. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, subject-verb agreement, and the correct use of articles and prepositions.
