Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Madam
I have seen an advertisement in a magazine about baby sit a little one . I think I would be a perfect match for your requirement because I have done my degree in early childhood education and also i used to work as a childhood educator but because of my further studies i had to quit the job
. I love kids and I’m more than happy to spend my time with little ones . I can also help kids in their homework and I’m able to teach them light exercises . I can cook a good food for kids as I used to do at my previous place . Moreover I love to explore other places and while I will be free there I would love to explore Australia better also I am a coffee lover and I heard from others about coffee in Australia I would love to try different coffee shops . I hope for a positive response from your side .

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The letter addresses all three bullet points required by the prompt. You explain your motivation, provide relevant background regarding your education and experience, and describe your leisure interests in Australia. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For example, while you mention your degree and previous work, expanding slightly on specific skills or achievements would have provided a more persuasive tone. The letter follows the required format, although the opening salutation was slightly inaccurate based on the prompt's instruction. Overall, the response is relevant and fulfills the functional requirements of the task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is generally coherent, and the progression of ideas is logical. You move from the purpose of the letter to your qualifications and then to your personal interests. However, the use of cohesive devices is quite limited and somewhat mechanical. There is a lack of paragraphing, which makes the text appear as a single block, hindering the visual flow. Using transition words like 'Furthermore,' 'Additionally,' or 'Consequently' would help connect your sentences more fluidly. The referencing is clear, but the overall structure would benefit from more sophisticated linking between ideas.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
Your vocabulary is adequate for the task but remains quite basic. You use simple phrases like 'baby sit a little one' and 'cook a good food,' which are functional but lack the precision expected at higher bands. There are also some minor errors in word choice, such as 'baby sit' (which should be 'babysit' or 'looking after') and 'explore Australia better' (which is slightly unnatural). To improve, try to incorporate more specific terminology related to childcare and professional experience. The range is sufficient to convey your meaning, but it does not demonstrate the flexibility required for a higher score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you successfully use some complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'I have done my degree' (should be 'I completed my degree'), 'i used to work' (capitalization error), and 'I can cook a good food' (article error). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the placement of periods and the lack of commas to separate clauses. These errors do not impede communication, but they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and consistent punctuation will improve your accuracy.
