Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir,
I have seen your advertisement that you are looking for a care giver for your six year old child. I would like to apply for this position as I have five year experience in this field. Additionally, I have already got an visa for Australia so it would be an great opportunity for me to do a job in my field.
Moreover, this is the first time, I am travelling to abroad and living with a family would help to reduce my homesickness. I love to take care of children and it would help me to gain a experience in my work field.
On my day off, I would like to explore the food and culture of this country so that I can adapt it. I would like to join a dance classes to fulfill my childhood dream.
I have attached my resume with this letter. Looking forward for your prompt response.
Yours Sincerely,
Gagandeep Kaur

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: explaining your motivation, highlighting your suitability, and describing your plans for free time. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For example, while you mention having five years of experience, providing a specific example of your childcare duties would have made your application more persuasive. Similarly, your plans for free time are mentioned briefly but could be expanded to show more engagement with the Australian lifestyle. Overall, the response covers the requirements well but remains quite brief in its elaboration.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. You have used some cohesive devices such as 'Additionally', 'Moreover', and 'On my day off' to link your ideas. However, the flow between sentences is occasionally a bit mechanical. The paragraphing is appropriate, and the progression of ideas is easy to follow. To improve, try to vary your linking words and ensure that the transition between your experience and your personal goals feels more natural rather than just a list of points.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to communicate your message clearly. You use relevant terms like 'care giver', 'position', and 'resume'. However, there are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'got an visa' (should be 'obtained a visa') and 'gain a experience' (should be 'gain experience'). The vocabulary is generally functional but lacks the more sophisticated or precise collocations that would push the score into the higher bands. Focusing on articles and countable/uncountable noun usage will help improve your accuracy.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical slips throughout the text. For instance, 'I am travelling to abroad' is incorrect (it should be 'travelling abroad'), and 'an great opportunity' should be 'a great opportunity'. Additionally, there are minor punctuation and article errors, such as 'six year old' (should be 'six-year-old') and 'a dance classes' (should be 'dance classes'). These errors do not impede communication, but they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score.
