Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I hope you are well, and I am writing this letter to inform you that I saw your advertisement in a magazine to take care of your child and staying with your family. So, first of all, I am interested in this job because I have experience in child and senior caretaking, as well as i also have a caretaker certificate. Secondly, I think I am suitable for this job because I have experience, and I am happy to play with children, and I also help the children in their studies as well as take care of their good and bad habits. Lastly, in my free time, I usually spend my time with children. If I am alone, I watch videos on how we can take care of children, like improving my skills, or I can help the parents with their housework.
Thanks you
Kulveer Singh.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have addressed all three bullet points required by the prompt. You explained your interest in the job, provided reasons for your suitability, and described how you would spend your free time. However, the development of these ideas is quite limited. For instance, the section on free time is somewhat repetitive, as you mention spending time with children again rather than exploring the Australian context or personal interests. To reach a higher band, you should expand on your ideas with more specific details—such as mentioning particular hobbies or cultural activities you hope to experience in Australia—to provide a more comprehensive and engaging response.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter follows a basic logical progression, and you have used some cohesive devices such as 'first of all', 'secondly', and 'lastly' to structure your points. However, the paragraphing is insufficient; the entire body of the letter is presented as a single block of text. To improve, you should separate your introduction, the three main body points, and your closing into distinct paragraphs. Additionally, some transitions feel a bit mechanical. Improving the flow between sentences by using a wider variety of linking words would help the ideas connect more naturally.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate your intentions clearly. You use some relevant terms like 'caretaker certificate' and 'advertisement'. However, the range is somewhat limited and repetitive, particularly your frequent use of the word 'children' and 'experience'. To achieve a higher score, try to incorporate more varied synonyms and collocations related to childcare and professional settings. For example, instead of repeating 'take care of', you could use 'supervise', 'nurture', or 'ensure the well-being of'. Expanding your vocabulary will make your writing more precise and professional.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures. While your meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'staying with your family' (should be 'stay with your family' to match the infinitive structure) and 'Thanks you' (should be 'Thank you'). There are also minor issues with punctuation and capitalization, such as the lowercase 'i' when referring to yourself. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and consistent verb tense usage. Proofreading your work for these small slips will significantly enhance the accuracy and professional tone of your writing.
