You do NOT need to write any addresses.

Begin your letter as follows:

Dear Sir or Madam,

Student answer (Band 7.0)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing to apply for the position of childcare assistant. I recently read your advertisement in an Australian magazine and it immediately caught my attention because it closely aligns with my past experience in childcare. Moreover, I have already applied for student visa in Australia, therefore, this job would help to manage my expenses while studying.

I believe that I am perfectly suitable for this role, because dealing with children requires a great deal of patience, empathy and understanding, and I have all these qualities extensively. Moreover, my previous experience has taught me a comprehensive understanding of children behavior.

During my stay in Australia, I would like to learn about local culture and tradition to broaden my horizon of knowledge. I have also planned to improve my language skills through interacting with people in public during free time. I think this would be the most effective way to do so.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Yours sincerely,

Rahul

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

You have addressed all three bullet points required by the prompt. You clearly explained your motivation for applying, highlighted your relevant personal qualities and experience, and described your plans for your free time in Australia. The tone is appropriate for a formal application letter. To reach a higher band, you could provide more specific examples of your childcare experience, such as mentioning specific activities you have done with children or how you handled a particular situation. This would add depth to your claims of having 'extensive' qualities and make your application more persuasive and concrete for the potential employers.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs for each requirement, and a formal closing. You use cohesive devices such as 'Moreover' and 'Therefore' to link your ideas. However, the use of 'Moreover' is slightly repetitive, appearing at the start of two consecutive paragraphs. To improve, try using a wider variety of transition words or phrases to connect your ideas, such as 'In addition to this,' 'Furthermore,' or 'Consequently.' The paragraphing is appropriate, and the progression of ideas is easy to follow throughout the letter.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using phrases like 'closely aligns,' 'comprehensive understanding,' and 'broaden my horizon.' These choices are generally accurate and appropriate for the context. There is a minor error in 'children behavior,' which should be 'children's behavior.' To achieve a higher band, try to incorporate more precise collocations or slightly more sophisticated vocabulary related to childcare or personal development. Overall, your vocabulary is sufficient to convey your message clearly and effectively without any significant strain on the reader.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures effectively. For example, the use of 'because' and 'therefore' helps to create complex sentences that explain your reasoning. There are a few minor grammatical slips, such as 'applied for student visa' (missing the article 'a') and 'children behavior' (missing the possessive 's'). Despite these minor errors, your meaning is always clear, and the punctuation is generally correct. To improve, focus on article usage and possessive forms to ensure your writing is more polished and error-free.
