Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to express my keen interest in an opportunity you recently advertised in the Daily Update Australian Magazine. As it is stated in the advertisement that this position is to look after a six-year-old child, and live with the family for approximately six months.
Honestly, I would love to take care of your child, and would be happy to live with a local family to enhance my knowledge and observe closely the culture and traditions of a native family. I am an immigrant currently enrolled in an university master's programme. It would be an honour for to spend my summer time with a native family to get familiar with local traditions.
In addition to that, I believe I will be a strong candidate for this opportunity, as I already have significant experience to take care of school-going child. I was used to look after my siblings while my parents were away for work. Furthermore, my resilient personality made is possible for me to handle sufficiently any unintended events.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have addressed all three bullet points required by the prompt. You explained your motivation for the job, provided reasons for your suitability, and described your plans for free time. However, the response ends abruptly mid-sentence, which is a significant issue. While the content is relevant, the lack of a proper closing and the incomplete final sentence prevent the letter from being fully developed and professional. To improve, ensure you complete your thoughts and include a standard closing salutation such as 'Yours faithfully' or 'Sincerely'.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is generally organized into logical paragraphs, each focusing on a specific requirement of the task. You use some cohesive devices like 'In addition to that' and 'Furthermore' to link ideas. However, the flow is interrupted by the incomplete final sentence, which leaves the reader hanging. Additionally, some transitions feel slightly mechanical. To reach a higher band, ensure that your ideas flow smoothly from one paragraph to the next and that you always provide a complete, coherent conclusion to your letter.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using phrases like 'keen interest', 'resilient personality', and 'unintended events'. There are some minor collocation issues, such as 'I was used to look after', which should be 'I used to look after'. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning, it lacks the sophistication and precision required for higher bands. Try to incorporate more varied and natural collocations to describe your experiences and intentions.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text. For example, 'As it is stated... and live with the family' is a sentence fragment. You also have errors in verb usage, such as 'my resilient personality made is possible' (should be 'made it possible') and 'I was used to look after' (should be 'I used to look after'). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to affect the overall accuracy of your writing.
