You do NOT need to write any addresses.

Dear Sir or Madam,

Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir

I hope this letter finds you well.

I have seen your advertisement for nanny to take care of your child. I would like to take this job because I am a trained nanny, I have four years of experience including living in child's family. Moreover I love playing with kids. While taking care of children it felt like playing rather than a job.

It reminds me of my childhood. I take care of them as a friend; as a result they feel more comfortable and relaxed around me which helps in their better growth. I taught them basic things like eating properly, manners, and teach them the basic things like fruit names, alphabets, numerical values, ETC.

Australia is a good country for travelling, I have some of my friends residing there from a long time. I will spend most of my free time with them or I can explore Australia on my own. There are various things i would prefer to see like Kangaroos, deserts and beaches. I will wait for your decision. If you are interested to move further please let me know, I will send my documents to you.

Thank you

Simran

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all three bullet points of the prompt: explaining the motivation for the job, detailing suitability, and describing plans for free time. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter, although the opening salutation 'Dear Sir' is slightly informal compared to the requested 'Dear Sir or Madam'. The ideas are relevant, but the development is somewhat basic. For instance, the explanation of suitability focuses on general experience rather than specific achievements or qualifications. To reach a higher band, the response should provide more concrete examples of past childcare responsibilities or specific certifications to better persuade the parents.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter is logically organized into paragraphs, each addressing a specific requirement of the prompt. There is a clear progression of ideas from the introduction to the conclusion. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and limited. Phrases like 'Moreover' and 'as a result' are used correctly, but the transitions between sentences within paragraphs could be smoother. The referencing is generally clear, though the connection between the paragraph about childcare and the paragraph about Australia feels a bit abrupt. Improved use of linking words would enhance the flow of the text.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to convey their message clearly. There is some attempt to use topic-specific vocabulary such as 'residing', 'explore', and 'numerical values'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'take care of your child' (should be 'children' or 'your six-year-old') and 'move further' (should be 'proceed'). The use of 'ETC' is informal and should be avoided in formal correspondence. Expanding the range of vocabulary to include more precise adjectives and professional collocations would improve the score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'advertisement for nanny' (missing article 'a'), 'living in child's family' (awkward phrasing), and 'teach them the basic things' (tense inconsistency). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are some issues with sentence boundaries and capitalization (e.g., 'i' instead of 'I'). The majority of sentences are understandable, but the frequency of minor errors prevents the response from reaching a higher band. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and article usage would be beneficial.
