Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I hope you are doing well. I am writing this letter to apply for job, I saw an advertisement in an Australian magazine.
To begin with, I am extremely interested in this job, which includes taking care of child and look after your family, because I live alone in Australia and recently completed my exams, hence I am looking something to unwind. I believe this is a remarkable opportunity for me in addition to this it is mutually benefited for both of us.
Furthermore, I am an experienced tutor thus I have skills to raise a child in an impeccable way such as I can help in academics, playing indoors and outdoor games to develop his cognitive mind. Another contributing reason, why I am a good choice for this role is I can do all the household chore single-handedly, since I used to help my grandmother.
I love to spend a time with children and family as I live here alone, therefore whenever I get a chance I always prefer to go in the park, where I can play with children and spend time with older generation as I find it captivating to listen to their life stories.
I am looking forward to your response.
yours faithfully,
Anjali Petle

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: explaining your motivation, highlighting your suitability, and describing your free-time plans. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter. However, the development of your ideas is somewhat inconsistent. While you mention your experience as a tutor, the explanation of how you would spend your free time is a bit vague and focuses more on your general habits rather than specific plans for your time in Australia. To improve, ensure that each point is fully extended with concrete details that directly relate to the context of living with a family for six months.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each focusing on a specific aspect of the task. You use a range of cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Furthermore', and 'Another contributing reason'. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical or forced. For instance, the connection between your desire to unwind and the job opportunity could be smoother. Additionally, there are some minor issues with referencing, such as the phrase 'mutually benefited', which is slightly awkward in this context. Overall, the progression of ideas is clear and easy to follow throughout the letter.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using phrases like 'impeccable way', 'cognitive mind', and 'captivating'. There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'mutually benefited' (should be 'mutually beneficial') and 'looking something' (missing the preposition 'for'). While you attempt to use more sophisticated language, some of these attempts result in slightly unnatural phrasing. Expanding your range of collocations and ensuring correct word forms will help you reach a higher band. The vocabulary used is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly without causing confusion.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is good. However, there are several grammatical errors throughout the text. For example, 'apply for job' is missing an article ('the' or 'a'), and 'taking care of child' should be 'taking care of the child'. There are also some issues with comma splices and run-on sentences, such as in the second paragraph. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles will significantly improve your accuracy.
