Student answer (Band 5.5)

Dear sir or Madam,

Hope this letter finds you well. Recently I red the offer in Australian magazine that you are seeking for a care taker for your child, because you both are have hectic schedule.

Thus, here i would like to mention that i recently completed my six month care taker diploma. I would be highly suitable for your child for taking care of him. Because i love spending time with kids. I also done this before one year ago i took care of my nephew while his parents was travel to Europe for five month. They did not get any complain from my side. Although, I have stuff that kids really loved like soft toys, puzzle games and some small battery cars, that I will bring for your child. It will help him to be trusted.

Most importantly, I am not only available for weekdays, but also weekends will be suits my flexible hours.

Hope, your like my recommendation, waiting for response.

Your sencerely

Amritpreet

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

You have addressed all three bullet points required by the task instructions. You explained your motivation for the job, provided details regarding your suitability (the diploma and previous experience), and described how you would spend your free time, albeit briefly. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited; for instance, the explanation of how you would spend your free time is missing, as you only mentioned your availability for work. To improve, ensure each bullet point is expanded with more specific detail to fully satisfy the requirements of the prompt.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter follows a logical progression, starting with the purpose of the letter and moving through the required points. Paragraphing is present, though the structure is a bit fragmented. You use some cohesive devices like 'Thus' and 'Most importantly', but the flow between sentences is occasionally hindered by grammatical errors. Referencing is generally clear, but the transition between the mention of your diploma and your experience with your nephew could be smoother. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear, unified focus.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate your main points effectively. You use some relevant terms such as 'hectic schedule', 'diploma', and 'flexible hours'. However, there are several instances of awkward phrasing and word choice errors, such as 'seeking for a care taker' (should be 'seeking a caretaker') and 'did not get any complain' (should be 'did not receive any complaints'). There is also a reliance on basic vocabulary. To improve, try to incorporate more precise collocations and ensure that word forms are used correctly in context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

You demonstrate a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('you both are have', 'your like my recommendation'), tense errors ('I also done this', 'parents was travel'), and punctuation mistakes. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are noticeable and occur frequently. To improve, focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement, correct verb tense usage, and proofreading for common slips. Increasing the variety of complex sentence structures while maintaining accuracy will also help raise your score.
