Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir, I have recently seen an advertisement in an Australian newspaper that you are looking for a child-care worker for your child, and a caretaker for your house. I am writing this letter to inform you that I am really interested in this job, and I am studying "Childcare Education" at a well-reputed college in your city. As a result of my education and knowledge, I have all the qualities, such as patience and hard work, to be an excellent caretaker. Moreover, all other important qualities like kindness, understanding, and so on are in me from birth. In addition, this job helps me to gain experience in my career field and develop more skills related to my profession. Furthermore, in my opinion, I am the most suitable person for that job, as my profession is completely associated with this, and due to my personality, I can handle all the responsibilities regarding this job in a better way, as I usually spend my leisure time playing with children near the park by my house. Due to my friendly and child-loving nature, I become easily comfortable and loved by them. You can contact me through my mailing address and contact number to ask for more information. Yours sincerely, Komal

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The letter addresses all three bullet points of the prompt. You explain your interest in the job, highlight your relevant education and personality traits, and mention how you spend your leisure time. However, the third bullet point regarding your free time in Australia is addressed somewhat vaguely. You mention spending time in a park near your house, but you do not specifically link this to your time in Australia or your plans while living there. To improve, ensure each bullet point is fully developed with specific, relevant details that directly answer the prompt's requirements.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is logically organized, and the progression of ideas is clear. You use cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'In addition', and 'Furthermore' to link your paragraphs and sentences. However, the paragraphing is somewhat unconventional; the text is presented in a single block rather than distinct paragraphs for each point. Using clear paragraph breaks would significantly improve the visual structure and readability of your letter. Additionally, while the cohesive devices are functional, some feel slightly mechanical. Aim for a more natural flow by varying your transitions.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You have an adequate range of vocabulary to convey your message clearly. Phrases like 'well-reputed college' and 'handle all the responsibilities' are appropriate for the context. However, there is some repetition of basic terms, and some word choices are slightly unnatural, such as 'in me from birth' to describe personality traits. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more precise collocations and less common vocabulary related to childcare and professional experience. For example, instead of 'kindness', you could use 'nurturing disposition' or 'empathetic nature'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. Most of your sentences are clear, and your meaning is rarely obscured by errors. There are some minor grammatical slips, such as 'I become easily comfortable and loved by them', which is slightly awkward phrasing. Additionally, ensure subject-verb agreement and preposition usage are consistently accurate. While you show control over basic grammar, incorporating a wider variety of complex structures—such as conditional sentences or relative clauses—would help demonstrate a higher level of grammatical flexibility.
