Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing this letter to inform you to regarding a babysitter needed for six years old child in Australia.
I will give you a small Introduction of my self. My name is Krish and I am living in Australian since last 10 years. I have seen your advertisement on newsletter regarding a babysitting for six years your child.
I have 6 years of experience in daycare as a teacher which is located on Garden Avenue. I won a madel for "Teacher of the year" for five times. But righ now I quit this job due to travelling issues. It is very far from my home almost 30 minutes drive as a result I quit that job and now I have seen your advertisment and I believe that I am the best person to take care of your child. I have a knowledge how to take care of children, how to study with them and also I can play with child to feel active. When I get a chance I will do some house chores, do some gardening, go for a small walk alone or with pets.
I hope this letter finds you well. Also consider my application for babysitting.
Best regards,
Krish

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have addressed all three bullet points required by the prompt: explaining your interest, detailing your suitability, and describing your free-time activities. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, while you mention your experience as a daycare teacher, the explanation of why you are a suitable candidate could be more professional and persuasive. The tone is occasionally informal and slightly repetitive, such as the explanation regarding why you quit your previous job. To improve, ensure that your ideas are fully expanded with a focus on how your skills directly benefit the family, rather than focusing on your personal commuting issues.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter follows a logical structure, beginning with an introduction, moving to your qualifications, and concluding with your personal interests. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive. Phrases like 'I am writing this letter to' and 'I have' are used frequently, which limits the flow of the text. Paragraphing is present, but the transitions between ideas could be smoother. For example, the jump from your professional experience to your free-time activities is abrupt. Using a wider variety of linking words such as 'furthermore', 'consequently', or 'in addition' would help improve the logical progression of your ideas.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, but it lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. You rely on basic terms like 'good', 'best', and 'play'. There are also some noticeable errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'madel' (medal), 'righ now' (right now), and 'advertisment' (advertisement). Additionally, the phrasing 'study with them' is not the most natural collocation for a six-year-old child; 'assist with their schoolwork' or 'engage in educational activities' would be more appropriate. To reach a higher band, focus on using more sophisticated vocabulary related to childcare and professional experience.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the clarity of your message. Examples include 'inform you to regarding', 'living in Australian since last 10 years' (should be 'have lived in Australia for the last 10 years'), and 'I have a knowledge how to'. These errors in verb tense, prepositions, and article usage are consistent throughout the letter. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. Focus on subject-verb agreement and correct preposition usage.
