Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to express my interest in applying job as a baby seater or a support worker. I came across this information by reading Australian Magazine. I read that you are looking for someone who can live with your family for six months and look after your kid.
Firstly, I am coming to the Australia next month to meet my cousin and to explore the country. During that time if I get something to earn would be very helpful so I do not have to depend on my cousin for economical reason.
Secondly, I think this position is suitable for me because I have studied early childhood course and also worked as a care giver for 6 years in my hometown. Thus, I have very good knowledge regarding how to handle with kids. Additionally, I would be happy to assist your family during my stay too. Moreover, In my free time I would like to explore the city and its culture. For instance, visiting popular restaurants, parks etc.
I look forward to hearing from you. Hope you accept my request.
Yours Sincerely,
Dharavi Rathod

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The letter addresses all three bullet points of the prompt: explaining the motivation for the job, detailing suitability, and describing plans for free time. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter, although the opening is slightly informal. The ideas are relevant and clearly presented, though the development of the 'free time' section is somewhat brief. The purpose of the letter is clear from the start, and the reader is left with a good understanding of your background and intentions. To improve, ensure that the explanation of your motivation is more professional, focusing on the value you can provide to the family rather than just the financial benefit.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized into distinct paragraphs, each addressing a specific requirement of the task. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Secondly', 'Additionally', and 'Moreover' to guide the reader through your points. While these are effective, the flow between some sentences is slightly mechanical. The paragraphing is appropriate for a formal letter. To reach a higher band, try to vary your linking words and ensure that the transition between your personal motivation and your professional qualifications is smoother, perhaps by using more sophisticated cohesive structures rather than relying solely on list-like transitions.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'support worker', 'early childhood course', and 'care giver'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'baby seater' (should be 'babysitter') and 'economical reason' (should be 'financial reasons'). The phrase 'handle with kids' is also slightly unnatural; 'care for children' or 'work with children' would be more appropriate. While your vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, you need to focus on more precise word choices and standard collocations to improve your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'applying job' (should be 'applying for a job'), 'coming to the Australia' (should be 'coming to Australia'), and 'if I get something to earn' (should be 'if I find a job'). Additionally, there are minor punctuation and article errors throughout the text. While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles to ensure your writing is more accurate and professional.
