Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear sir or Madam,

Hope you are well!!

I am writing a letter to show my interest in taking care of your child. I saw your advertisement in a magazine and would like to work as a nanny..

This job helps me to build some new relationships and makes me more happy by taking care of your child. I believe it is a rewarding job where I teach your child good manners and responsibility.

I believe that I am perfect for this job because I have 2 years experience of nanny care and also I am working in a daycare as a part time role where I manage children and motivate them to do new tasks.

I would like to enjoy my leisure time in Australia as well by taking a small duration of courses related to Early Childhood Educators so that I will gain more experience by working with child closely.

I am trustworthy and honest, please contact me by email or phone number as your convenience.

Sincerely,

Sandeep Shori

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The letter covers all three bullet points required by the prompt. You explain your motivation, detail your experience as a nanny and daycare worker, and describe your plans for professional development in Australia. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter, although the opening 'Hope you are well!!' is slightly informal for a first-time contact with a potential employer. The ideas are relevant, though some points, such as the specific reasons for wanting the job, could be expanded with more detail to fully meet the requirements of a higher band. Overall, the task is addressed clearly and effectively.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter is logically organized into distinct paragraphs, each addressing a specific part of the prompt. The progression of ideas is easy to follow. You use some basic cohesive devices like 'This job', 'I believe', and 'I would like to', which help link your sentences. However, the use of linking words is somewhat repetitive and basic. To improve, try incorporating a wider variety of transition signals such as 'Furthermore', 'Consequently', or 'In addition to this' to create a smoother flow between your ideas and paragraphs.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'rewarding', 'trustworthy', and 'Early Childhood Educators'. However, there are some minor inaccuracies and word-choice issues, such as 'makes me more happy' (should be 'makes me happier') and 'small duration of courses' (should be 'short courses'). The vocabulary is functional but lacks the precision and variety required for a higher band. Expanding your repertoire of collocations and idiomatic expressions related to childcare and professional settings would significantly enhance your score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While your meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical slips, such as 'I am writing a letter to show' (a bit redundant; 'I am writing to express' is better), '2 years experience of nanny care' (should be 'two years' experience as a nanny'), and 'as your convenience' (should be 'at your convenience'). Punctuation is generally fine, though the double exclamation mark in the opening is inappropriate for a formal letter. Focus on subject-verb agreement and preposition usage to improve accuracy.
