Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing to express my interest in your advertisement for someone to live with a family for six months and to look after your six-year-old child.

I have several years of exeperience working as a nanny and childcare professional. I would be glad to take up this job as I enjoy taking care of children and would like to gain further experience as a childminder.

Furthermore, I am a government-certified professional, hence you can rest assured to leave your son or daughter under my care. Additionally, I would be happy to help your family with cooking meals, cleaning, and manage play school for the child. I have attached a couple of recommendations from past employeres for your reference.

I would be available from September 26, 2026 until the end of April next year, from Monday to Friday. However, I would not be available on Saturdays and Sundays as I like to go trekking every week and play cricket with my local team. Please let me know if this would be suitable for your requirements.

Thank you for considering my application, I look forward to hearing from you.

Yours faithfully,

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

You have successfully covered all the bullet points required in the prompt. You clearly explained why you want the job by stating that you enjoy taking care of children and wish to gain further experience. You provided suitable details regarding your background, mentioning your government-certified professional status and past experience as a nanny. Additionally, you clearly outlined how you would spend your free time by mentioning trekking and playing cricket with a local team. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter, and all requirements of the task have been fully addressed.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

Your letter is logically organised with clear paragraphing, where each paragraph serves a distinct purpose corresponding to the prompt requirements. You make good use of cohesive devices to connect your ideas, such as 'Furthermore', 'Additionally', and 'However'. Progression throughout the letter is logical and smooth, making it very easy for the reader to follow your thoughts from your motivation for applying to your availability and weekend activities.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You use an adequate and generally appropriate range of vocabulary for this task. Phrases such as 'express my interest', 'government-certified professional', and 'for your reference' demonstrate a good handle on formal letter-writing conventions. There are a few spelling and typographical errors, such as 'exeperience' instead of 'experience' and 'employeres' instead of 'employers'. However, these minor slips do not impede overall communication and you still display a sufficient lexical range.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

You demonstrate a good mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as concessive clauses using 'However' and conditional elements regarding your availability. Most of your sentences are clear and grammatically sound, with good control over tense and punctuation. There is a slight slip in collocation and grammar in the phrase 'rest assured to leave', which should more naturally be 'rest assured that you can leave', but this does not hinder understanding.
