Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The candidate has successfully addressed all three bullet points outlined in the task instructions. They explained their motivation for wanting the job, detailing that as a newcomer to Australia, they wish to minimise cultural differences and understand the everyday lifestyle. They provided details regarding their suitability, mentioning personal qualities such as being responsible and caring, as well as relevant volunteer experience in caregiving facilities. Additionally, they outlined how they would spend their free time visiting national parks, museums, and relatives. The tone is appropriate for a letter, and all requirements are covered well, placing this performance comfortably at Band 7.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organised with a clear beginning, middle, and end, using paragraphing effectively to separate each bullet point from the task instructions. Cohesive devices such as 'In addition', 'Moreover', and 'other than that' are used to connect ideas, although some transitions feel slightly mechanical. Referencing is generally clear, though minor issues with article use and pronoun reference occur. Overall progression is logical, allowing the reader to follow the writer's intentions easily without confusion, which fits the Band 6.5 to 7 descriptor profile well.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The candidate demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'newcomer', 'minimise the cultural difference', and 'cargiving facilities'. However, there are notable word choice and collocation errors, such as 'interest for job posting' instead of 'interest in the job posting', 'best suit' instead of 'best suited', and spelling slips like 'cargiving' and 'everday'. While these inaccuracies do not impede overall communication, they prevent the lexical score from reaching the higher bands, aligning it solidly with Band 6.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The writer employs a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, including conditional or relative clauses such as 'As a new comer in Australia, i would like to engage...' and '...who lived nearby so I would like to visit them'. However, there are several grammatical errors throughout the text, including lowercase 'i', missing articles ('as a new comer', 'as volunteer'), and tense/form inconsistencies ('that help me to taking care'). Despite these frequent errors, the meaning remains clear and communication is not impeded, warranting a Band 6 score.
