Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The candidate has successfully addressed all bullet points of the task prompt. The letter clearly explains why the writer would like the job, namely to work with children and experience life in Australia. Suitable personal attributes and relevant past experience, such as looking after younger cousins and handling household chores, are well-detailed. Furthermore, the response outlines how free time would be spent by exploring the country, engaging in weekend activities, and improving English language skills. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter, and ideas are fully developed throughout the response.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter follows a clear logical organization with distinct paragraphs dedicated to each part of the prompt. Cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore', 'During my free time', and 'however' are utilized to connect ideas, although some punctuation and capitalization errors near sentence boundaries slightly disrupt the flow. For instance, run-on sentences in the second and third paragraphs require better separation. Nonetheless, there is a clear overall progression throughout the text, and paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct themes.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary suitable for the task, successfully incorporating terms such as 'energetic', 'joyful', 'household chores', and 'communication skills'. There are some spelling and capitalization errors, such as 'responce', 'experiance', 'maintainence', and 'austalians'. However, these lexical slips do not impede overall communication. The writer attempts less common expressions like 'taking up this position' and 'welcome the opportunity', demonstrating sufficient flexibility for a Band 6.5 outcome.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The candidate demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as the relative clause in 'which will help me improve my english'. There are notable grammatical and punctuation errors, including missing capital letters at the start of sentences ('Iam', 'i'), punctuation issues ('patient , energetic'), and minor subject-verb agreement or tense slips like 'these activities does not effect'. Despite these frequent minor errors, the meaning remains clear and they rarely impede communication.
