Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir/Madam

I hope life is treating you well. I am writing this letter to let you know that I read your advertisement regarding taking care of your child. I am glad to have this chance.

I completed the nanny course this year. Moreover, I have a keen interest in taking care of children. I love children. I love to play with them. Apart from this, I did a job in day care in India for 2 years. I know very well how to feed the children and how to change their diapers and clothes.

Now, I am in Australia, and I am looking for a job, especially in this field. In my spare time, I go to the park and spend time with children by playing with them. Sometimes, I go to the library and read novels. According to my course and my work experience, I think I am a suitable person for this job. I am waiting for your response.

Warm Regards,

Gurpreet kaur

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response covers all three bullet points required by the task prompt. You explained why you would like the job by mentioning your keen interest in children and how you read the advertisement. You provided details of your suitability by stating that you completed a nanny course this year and worked in a day care in India for two years, giving specific tasks like feeding children and changing diapers. Finally, you described how you spend your free time in Australia, such as going to the park to play with children and visiting the library to read novels. The purpose of the letter is clear and the tone is generally appropriate for a job application, although the opening salutation "Dear Sir/Madam" contrasts slightly with the sign-off and the informal "I hope life is treating you well". Overall, all parts of the task are addressed adequately.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is arranged in clear paragraphs, with each paragraph focusing on a different aspect of the prompt. For example, the second paragraph details your experience and suitability, while the third paragraph outlines your current situation and free-time activities. However, the progression between ideas feels a bit disjointed due to the heavy reliance on short, simple sentences and basic cohesive devices such as "Moreover", "Apart from this", and "Now, I am in Australia". While the overall structure is coherent and easy to follow, the cohesive devices can be mechanical at times, and referencing between sentences could be smoother to achieve a higher band score.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for completing the task, but it tends to be simple and repetitive. Phrases like "I love children" and "take care of" are used multiple times. You attempt some less common vocabulary related to childcare, such as "nanny course", "day care", and "diapers", which demonstrates sufficient range for the task. However, word choices are generally straightforward rather than sophisticated. There are no major spelling errors, and the vocabulary used does not impede communication, placing this response firmly in the Band 6 range.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as "According to my course and my work experience, I think I am a suitable person for this job." The grammar is generally accurate, and sentences like "I know very well how to feed the children and how to change their diapers and clothes" are grammatically correct and easy to understand. However, the range of complex structures is somewhat limited, and there is a tendency to use repetitive subject-verb patterns. Punctuation is generally fine, and while minor errors or awkward phrasing exist, they do not impede communication.
