Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response covers all three bullet points required in the task instructions. The candidate explains why they want the job by stating they like spending time with kids and want to experience the culture. Suitable qualifications and experience are detailed, including five years of babysitting, a child care course, and a master's degree in food and nutrition management. Finally, the candidate outlines how they would spend their free time visiting museums, walking in parks, reading books, and participating in community activities. Although there is an opening salutation mismatch with the prompt instruction (the prompt asks for 'Dear Sir or Madam,' while the candidate wrote 'Dera parents'), the communicative purpose of the letter is fully achieved. Ideas are clearly presented and supported.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter features clear logical organisation with paragraphs dedicated to distinct parts of the prompt, such as motivation, qualifications, and free-time plans. Cohesive devices are used reasonably well, such as 'Furthermore' and 'While I am in Australia'. However, referencing and paragraph flow can occasionally feel slightly mechanical, and there are some awkward transitions between sentences, such as 'educational activities can be given to kids.' Paragraphing is used sufficiently to structure the text logically, leading to an overall coherent arrangement throughout.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The candidate demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully incorporating topic-specific terms such as 'recreational and educational activities', 'nutritious and healthy food', and 'community activities'. There are some spelling and word-choice errors, such as 'intrest' instead of 'interest', 'childs' instead of 'child's', 'childrens' instead of 'children's', 'knowlege' instead of 'knowledge', 'appalication' instead of 'application', and 'musuem' instead of 'museum'. Despite these lapses, the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the intended meaning without impeding communication.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response includes a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as 'I am writing to express my interest in joining your family to look after the six year old child for six-months.' There are several grammatical errors and punctuation slips throughout the text, including incorrect hyphens, missing apostrophes ('childs', 'childrens'), subject-verb agreement issues like 'activities can be given', and minor preposition errors. However, these errors rarely impede communication, and the writer demonstrates good control over basic sentence structures.
