Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response covers all parts of the task in a clear and relevant manner. The writer successfully explains the desire for the job, provides details regarding their suitability as a professional nurse with childcare experience, and outlines plans to spend free time exploring Australia and its culture. The tone is appropriate for a letter of application. However, the use of all capital letters throughout the response detracts from formal letter conventions. Ideas are sufficiently extended and supported, meeting the requirements of Band 6.5 to 7.0. Given that all bullet points are adequately addressed and supported with specific professional details, a band score of 6.5 is appropriate.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter has a clear overall arrangement and follows a logical paragraph structure addressing each bullet point sequentially. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'ALSO', 'THEREFORE', and 'I AM ALSO ABLE TO', although some transitions are slightly repetitive or mechanical. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different topics, such as suitability and free-time plans. However, referencing and punctuation are occasionally faulty, and the lack of standard sentence casing impacts the flow. While the overall organisation is coherent, the mechanical use of cohesive devices and punctuation errors place this firmly at Band 6.0.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary suitable for the task, successfully incorporating professional terms such as 'PROFESSION', 'FIRST AID', and 'ADAPTABLE'. However, there are numerous spelling and word-choice errors throughout the text, including 'BELEIVE' instead of believe, 'CTARING' instead of caring, 'FAMILIER' instead of familiar, 'STUDING' instead of studying, and 'APPREACIATED' instead of appreciated. These errors do not seriously impede communication because the context remains clear, but they prevent the score from reaching a higher band. The lexical resource is sufficient for the task but limited by inaccuracies, warranting a band score of 5.5.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as 'I AM NURSE AS A PROFESSION THERSFORE I HAVE KNOWLEDGE ABOUT HANDING CARE OF CHILD'. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, including missing articles ('I am nurse', 'when child become'), incorrect prepositions, and persistent spelling and punctuation issues. Sentence boundary errors and a lack of standard capitalization make it difficult to evaluate punctuation control fully. While communication is not severely hindered, the high density of grammatical and mechanical errors means the response fits the Band 5.5 descriptor.
