Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response covers all three bullet points required by the task prompt. The writer explains why they want the job by mentioning their love for babies and need for employment, gives details of suitability by stating they have one year of experience and relevant studies, and touches upon spending free time with the baby. However, the response falls short of the 150-word minimum, containing only 141 words. This under-length impacts the full development of ideas, keeping the task achievement score capped at a band 5.0. To improve, the student must ensure all prompts are fully expanded and meet the minimum word count.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The letter follows a basic logical structure with an opening, body paragraphs, and a sign-off. However, paragraphing is underdeveloped, and the flow is disrupted by informal, conversational linking (e.g., 'Also, ryt now'). Cohesive devices are over-used in a repetitive manner, and referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the phrase 'with our baby'. While the overall intent of the letter is understandable, the lack of smooth transitions and structural control places it firmly within band 5.0.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is very basic and repetitive. Phrases such as 'good or bad for babies', 'love babies', and informal text-speak like 'ryt now' demonstrate a limited range. There are noticeable lexical errors and awkward word choices, such as 'discuss about recently your advertisement' and 'I am utilize my free time'. These errors and the restricted vocabulary make the range minimally adequate for the task, resulting in a band 5.0 score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying mostly on simple sentences joined by basic conjunctions. Attempts at more complex structures are faulty, as seen in 'an Australian magazine who is living with family' and 'I really appericated you if you gave me one chance'. There are frequent errors in verb tenses, prepositions, and sentence construction that cause some difficulty for the reader, which aligns with the band 5.0 descriptors.
