Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Madam,
I am writing this letter in response to your advertisement which I saw in the magzine. I read that you need a person who can live with you for six months and can take care of their child. I'm available for this position.
Well, I think I'm the suitable candidate for this job as I had already worked as a nanny and I enjoy doing that work. It gives me a feel of warmness whem I'm around with some child. Moreover, I'm good at acdemics so teaching and completing homework easy. Also, I can help with household chores.
After doing all the chores, if there is any free time available, we can chat or can go for some outing to have some peace of mind. My charges are also not that expensive like other nannies. I heard that Australia had so many beautiful places to visit. So, in free time I would love to go to that areas.
I hope that you will consider my application in this regard. Hope to hear from you soon.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers all the bullet points outlined in the prompt, successfully explaining why the writer would like the job, providing details of suitability, and describing how free time would be spent in Australia. The tone is appropriate for a general correspondence letter, starting with the requested salutation. However, the development of ideas remains somewhat basic and limited, such as mentioning academic skills briefly with 'teaching and completing homework easy'. While the requirements are fulfilled, the expansion of ideas leans toward over-generalisation rather than fully detailed elaboration. Consequently, this performance aligns closely with Band 6 descriptors, as all parts are addressed with relevant ideas, but some areas feel slightly under-developed.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter maintains a coherent overall arrangement with a clear paragraph-by-paragraph structure that addresses the prompt logically. Introduction, body paragraphs, and the concluding sign-off are distinct. However, referencing and cohesive devices are at times basic or slightly faulty. For instance, transitioning phrases feel abrupt, such as starting a paragraph with 'Well, I think I'm the suitable candidate...' and referencing child care with 'when I'm around with some child' rather than maintaining smooth lexical chains. Paragraphing is used sufficiently to separate distinct topics like motivation, suitability, and free time plans, but the logical flow between sentences could be tighter. This corresponds to a Band 6 score.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, successfully communicating the writer's intent, but it suffers from spelling errors ('magzine' instead of magazine, 'acdemics' instead of academics, 'whem' instead of when) and minor collocation issues ('around with some child'). The student attempts some less common expressions like 'peace of mind' and 'suitable candidate', but overall lexical control is limited. There is some repetition of simple words such as 'free time' and 'chores'. While the vocabulary allows the message to be conveyed without major impedance to understanding, the frequency of errors and restricted range keep this submission within the Band 6 tier.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The writer demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as 'I am writing this letter in response to your advertisement which I saw in the magzine' and 'After doing all the chores, if there is any free time available, we can chat or can go for some outing'. However, there are notable grammatical inaccuracies, including missing articles and copular verbs ('completing homework easy', 'Australia had so many beautiful places'), tense inconsistencies ('as I had already worked' instead of 'have already worked'), and awkward prepositions. Despite these errors, the meaning remains clear throughout, allowing for successful communication. This profile fits the Band 6 descriptor nicely.
