Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir or madam,
I am writing this to apply for a job to look after your six-year-old kid. I seen an advertisement in the famous magazine and I immediately realized that I am the best person for this job.
Firstly,I would like to inform you that I also had two younger siblings when I was in my back home country. I took care of them when my mother was not around. Secondly, I might create strong bond with kids easily and also children are more likely to be comfortable with me.
I believe that I am the suitable person for this job because I already had a experience to get along with kids. I know the receipes of children's favourite dishes. Moreover, I might help you with small jobs of your house such as, cleaning and cooking.
Genuinely, I would love to spend my free time with your family and kids. This is because it allows me to get to know about your culture and heritage.
In addition, It also gives me an opportunity to feel as a family member in this new country.
I would appreciate if you could give me a chance to do this job. I look forward to your response.
Thanks for your consideration.
Yours faithfully,
Kajal Sharma.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response covers all three bullet points required by the prompt. The candidate explains why they want the job by mentioning their desire to learn about the family's culture and heritage, provides details of suitability such as experience with younger siblings and knowing children's favourite recipes, and touches upon how they would spend free time. However, the explanation regarding free time is slightly ambiguous, as the candidate writes 'Genuinely, I would love to spend my free time with your family and kids' to answer the bullet point about free time, which slightly conflates personal leisure time with family time. Overall, the ideas are relevant and adequately developed to meet the requirements of the task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter maintains a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different ideas, such as reasons for applying, personal suitability, and free-time plans. Cohesive devices are employed to connect sentences, including transition markers like 'Firstly,' 'Secondly,' and 'Moreover.' However, referencing and transitional control are sometimes a bit mechanical. For example, using 'Genuinely,' as a discourse marker feels slightly unnatural in this context. Paragraph breaks could also be managed a bit more fluidly to enhance the overall flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The candidate demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully communicating personal experiences and intentions. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary and appropriate phrases, such as 'immediate realized,' 'strong bond,' and 'opportunity to feel as a family member.' However, there are notable lexical errors and unnatural collocations throughout the text. For instance, the phrase 'I seen an advertisement' contains a basic grammatical and lexical slip ('saw'), and 'create strong bond' lacks the necessary article. These errors do not impede communication, but they restrict the score to a Band 6.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence forms. The candidate successfully uses complex structures with subordinate clauses, such as 'I would appreciate if you could give me a chance...' and 'This is because it allows me to get to know about your culture.' However, there are several grammatical errors and awkward structures present. The opening sentence contains a tense error ('I seen an advertisement'), and there is an unnecessary comma splice and misuse of articles, as seen in 'feel as a family member.' Additionally, 'I already had a experience' contains a countable/uncountable noun error. Despite these flaws, communication is not impeded.
