Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The candidate addresses all parts of the task prompt clearly. They explain why they want the job by mentioning their interest in the magazine posting and the desire to work in Australia. Suitability is covered through details of their background, including finishing a child and youth worker programme in 2020 and subsequent babysitting experience. Finally, they explain how they would spend their free time, stating they plan to spend it with friends and cousins and engage in adventurous activities during the weekend. The tone is appropriate for a letter, though the greeting does not match the prompt instruction ('Dear Sir or Madam' vs 'Dear Sir'). Nevertheless, all bullet points are adequately covered, leading to a Band 6.5 score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is generally coherent and arranged in logical paragraphs, moving from an introduction to job suitability, free-time plans, and a polite sign-off. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different topics. However, cohesive devices are sometimes faulty or used inappropriately. For instance, the use of 'Furthermore' and 'Moreover' in consecutive sentences creates a repetitive and somewhat mechanical feel. Additionally, the linking word 'Even' in 'Even, I would like to play...' is misused in this context. Referencing is mostly clear, but the overall mechanical control of transitional markers keeps this criterion at Band 6.0.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, with some attempts at less common items such as 'adventurous activity' and 'recruitment process'. However, there are several spelling errors throughout the text, including 'intersted' instead of 'interested', 'experince' and 'exprinece' instead of 'experience', and 'adventerous' instead of 'adventurous'. These errors do not impede communication since the meaning remains clear, but they prevent the score from rising into the higher bands. A sufficient range of vocabulary is demonstrated for a Band 6.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as 'when I saw your posting in the magazine then I thought it would be the best position...'. There are some noticeable grammatical and punctuation errors. For example, there is an unnecessary comma in the opening sentence: '...inform you that, I am intersted...'. There is also a punctuation and article slip with 'since 1 year' (instead of 'for a year') and 'from the university of Melbourne' (lack of capitalization). Complex structures often contain minor flaws. However, meaning is rarely impeded, supporting a Band 6.0 score.
