Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The candidate successfully covers all three bullet points required by the task instructions. First, the purpose of the letter is stated, explaining the desire to live and work with the family. Second, details regarding suitability are provided, specifically highlighting 'five year experience' in childcare and knowledge of feeding, clothing, sleeping cycles, and hygiene. Third, free-time plans in Australia are mentioned, noting that leisure time is spent playing with children in playgrounds and gardens. However, there are some conceptual confusions, such as referring to a six-year-old child as an 'infant' and a 'baby,' which slightly impacts the precision of task fulfillment. Nevertheless, all prompt requirements are addressed adequately and relevant ideas are presented, warranting a solid Band 6.0 performance under Task Achievement.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter maintains a coherent overall arrangement and follows a clear, logical structure typical of semi-formal or personal correspondence. The response is divided into logical paragraphs, each addressing a different aspect of the prompt. Cohesive devices such as 'Moreover' and 'From my view' are used, although referencing and linking can sometimes feel mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'also I am looking for the place to live as well as work' and 'In Australia most of my leisure time is beign spend to play'. Paragraphing is used sufficiently to separate the introduction, background experience, and leisure plans, leading to an overall score of 6.0 for Coherence and Cohesion.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The lexical range is adequate for the task, though somewhat limited and repetitive. The candidate attempts some less common vocabulary items and phrasing, such as 'personal cleanliness' and 'enormously happy'. However, there are several word choice and collocation errors that demonstrate a lack of precision, including 'children carer' instead of 'childcarer' or 'babysitter', 'come to know' instead of 'came to know', and referring to a six-year-old child as an 'infant' or 'baby'. Spelling and word formation errors, such as 'beign', also occur. These errors do not impede overall communication, placing the response firmly at Band 5.5 for Lexical Resource.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The candidate attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some control over grammar. Examples include subordinate clauses like 'as I know everything regarding feeding' and 'because It makes me fee enormously happy'. However, frequent errors in grammar and mechanics are present throughout the text. Notable issues include tense and preposition errors ('since last five years', 'most of my leisure time is beign spend to play'), capitalization errors ('It makes me fee'), and missing articles. While these errors do not completely obscure the intended meaning, they occur regularly and restrict the grammar score to Band 5.0.
