Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The candidate has successfully covered all parts of the task prompt. In the opening, the writer clearly explains why they would like the job by referencing the six-month stay and childcare role. Details of suitability are well-supported, mentioning a background in humanitarian studies, a nursing qualification, and five years of babysitting experience. Additionally, the candidate addresses how they would spend their free time by stating they would love to introduce the family to the native area. All bullet points are thoroughly developed, and a polite, appropriate tone for a formal letter is maintained throughout the response, satisfying all core requirements for this criterion.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter demonstrates a clear logical organization and progression throughout. Information is grouped into sensible paragraphs: introduction, professional background, practical suitability, free-time plans, and a closing sign-off. The writer uses cohesive devices and transitional markers such as 'further', 'also', and 'I further believe' to link ideas, although there is a slight tendency to overuse the word 'further' consecutively across sentences. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, ensuring the reader can easily follow the sequence of ideas from the initial application to personal background and local familiarity.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The response employs an adequate and generally appropriate range of vocabulary for the task. Words and phrases such as 'humanitarian studies', 'certified nurse', and 'visa sponsorship' demonstrate a good control of functional and topic-specific lexis. However, there are some spelling errors and minor lexical inaccuracies, such as 'advertisment' instead of advertisement, 'Austrailian' instead of Australian, 'whixh' instead of which, and 'borne citizenship' instead of native citizenship. Despite these slips, the vocabulary used is sufficient to communicate meaning clearly and successfully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The candidate uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as 'I am writing in reference to your advertisement in which you require someone...' and 'I believe my qualifications and experience make a good fit...'. There are several grammatical and punctuation errors present, including missing apostrophes ('dont', 'avaliable', 'immidiately'), comma splices, and minor capitalization issues ('GCU university', 'Austrailian medical board'). However, these errors do not impede communication, and the overall structure remains comprehensible, showing a satisfactory level of control for a general training task.
