Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir,
I hope you are doing well. I am writing to express my interest for a job that was recently published in a magazine. This job of caretaker really suits me because my qualification and work experience in the same field. I graduated in 2024 since then I was working as a nanny for the Australian family. I am actively looking for similar role because my work contract is about to end this month.
I am particularly interested to work as a caretaker because I really enjoy spending time with toddler. I play different intellectual games for their personal development which makes me feel better.
In freetime, I pursue leisure activities. I go for a short walk with my dogs at the park where I tried to initiate conversation with strangers to spread happiness. I often watch movies on weekends with family and friends. Despite my busy schedule, I often save time for a reading and cooking. I enjoy doing these activities.
Please let me know if you need any further information. I am looking forward to hearing from you.
Thank you
Kind Regards,
Vaibhav

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response covers all three bullet points required in the task instructions. You successfully explain why you want the job by mentioning your previous experience and contract end date, give details of why you are suitable by highlighting your background as a nanny and interest in child development, and describe how you spend your free time with walks, movies, reading, and cooking. However, there are some inaccuracies in task alignment, such as addressing the parents of a six-year-old child while mentioning that you enjoy spending time with a 'toddler,' and your greeting 'Dear Sir' ignores the prompt's instruction to begin with 'Dear Sir or Madam' (though this is a minor deviation). Ideas are generally relevant, but could be further extended for a higher band. Overall, the task requirements are adequately addressed.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter is organised into clear paragraphs, each addressing a logical theme ranging from introduction and suitability to free-time activities and closing remarks. There is a discernible progression of ideas throughout the text. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'since then,' 'because,' and 'despite my busy schedule,' though referencing and transitions can occasionally feel a bit mechanical or abrupt. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately to separate distinct ideas, making the overall arrangement coherent and easy to follow for the reader.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, with some attempts at less common lexical items such as 'intellectual games,' 'personal development,' and 'leisure activities.' However, there are noticeable word choice and collocation inaccuracies throughout the text, such as 'interest for a job' instead of 'interest in a job,' 'published in a magazine' instead of 'advertised in a magazine,' and referring to a six-year-old as a 'toddler.' Spelling is generally accurate, but the lexical control reflects limitations that prevent the response from reaching a higher band. A wider and more precise range of vocabulary would improve this score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing structures with 'because,' 'although,' and relative clauses. However, there are frequent grammatical errors and tense inconsistencies that persist throughout the letter. For instance, 'since then I was working' should be 'since then I have been working,' and 'interest to work' should be 'interest in working.' Furthermore, phrases like 'a job that was recently published' contain awkward phrasing. While these errors do not severely impede communication, they occur often enough to demonstrate limited grammatical control compared to the higher band descriptors.
