Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response covers all three bullet points required in the task. The writer explains the desire for the job by stating that he loves kids very much. Details of suitability are provided through his loving nature and previous experience working at a school. Additionally, plans for free time are mentioned, including exploring new places in Australia, visiting museums and beaches, and going tracking. However, the ideas are relatively basic and lack full development. The tone is overly informal and at times inappropriate for a formal letter to parents, starting with an incorrect salutation "Dear Sir, Mam". While all prompts are addressed, the lack of paragraphing and underdeveloped details place this performance securely in the band 5 region.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The response suffers from significant structural deficiencies. The entire letter is written as a single, massive run-on paragraph, which completely lacks proper paragraphing. Furthermore, the progression of ideas is hindered by a lack of basic punctuation, making the text read as a single continuous stream of consciousness rather than a structured letter. Cohesive devices are minimal and rudimentary, relying on repetitive use of "and" or commas to link clauses where full stops or transition markers should be used. Referencing is sometimes unclear. While the overall purpose of the letter is understandable, the complete absence of paragraph breaks and correct punctuation pulls the coherence and cohesion score down to a 4.5.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is basic, repetitive, and limited to everyday words such as "love", "kids", "job", and "nice". There are noticeable spelling and word choice errors throughout the text, such as "i wanna let you know" (overly informal/slang), "there free time" instead of "their free time", "alot" instead of "a lot", "beachs" instead of "beaches", and "tracking" instead of "trekking". While the vocabulary is minimally adequate to convey the basic message, these errors and the lack of less common lexical items prevent the response from reaching a higher band score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The grammatical range is extremely limited, consisting almost entirely of simple sentences and continuous run-on clauses joined by commas and coordinating conjunctions. There are severe punctuation errors throughout, most notably the complete lack of capitalisation for "i" and "australia", and the total absence of full stops between distinct thoughts, resulting in run-on sentences like "as my previous job was at school so i love to spend time with the kids , i love to play with them in there free time and kids also love me alot." Frequent grammatical and punctuation errors cause noticeable difficulty for the reader and demonstrate a lack of control over basic sentence boundaries.
