Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to express my interest in renting your place for six months and caring for your six-year-old child, as I will be visiting Australia for the next six months.
I will be landing in Australia soon, and I am very interested in this role, as I have solid experience as an Early Childhood Educator. Moreover, I am coming to Australia to complete my internship for the Master of Education, which will last three months. That will only be of few hours per day and I will be free afterwards and no classes on weekends, in this way I can gain experience of working in foreign country that will be helpful for me in my career prospect.
As for suitability, I think I would be a suitable candidate due to my prior experience in handling children. I was born and brought up in a joint family, so living with a family will be a plus point for me as well as for you. I can also prepare meals for your kid and could help in your kids homework.
I would love to explore Australia in my free time, because that is my main reason for applying for an internship in another country. I can also give you help in household chores as I will be living with you.
I look forward to hearing from you soon. Please let me know if you need any personal details. I would be more than happy to provide them.
Yours faithfully,
RoopKamal

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response successfully covers all the bullet points outlined in the prompt. You begin by explaining why you would like the job, noting your upcoming visit to Australia and your desire to gain international experience. You then detail your suitability by mentioning your background as an Early Childhood Educator and growing up in a joint family. Finally, you explain how you would spend your free time by exploring Australia. However, there is a minor misunderstanding in the first paragraph where you mention "renting your place," whereas the advertisement asks for someone to live with a family and look after a child. Despite this slight misinterpretation of the living arrangement, all core parts of the prompt are addressed with relevant ideas, earning a solid band score for this criterion.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter maintains a clear overall progression and logical arrangement. Each paragraph is dedicated to a distinct aspect of the prompt: introduction and motivation, suitability and background, and free time activities, followed by a polite closing. Paragraphing is used appropriately throughout the response. Cohesive devices are employed to connect ideas, such as "Moreover," "As for suitability," and "I would love to." However, some referencing and transitions feel slightly mechanical, and sentences like "That will only be of few hours per day and I will be free afterwards and no classes on weekends, in this way I can gain experience..." are slightly run-on, which affects the overall flow. Overall, the organization is clear and easy to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary suitable for a general task of this nature. You successfully incorporate relevant phrases such as "express my interest," "Early Childhood Educator," and "household chores." However, there are some noticeable inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as stating you want to "rent your place" instead of living with the family, and awkward phrasing like "career prospect" instead of "career prospects." Furthermore, minor grammatical and lexical slips occur, but they do not impede communication. To reach a higher band, you should incorporate less common lexical items with greater precision and maintain tighter control over word forms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The response displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms. You attempt complex structures using relative clauses and conjunctions, such as "I am writing to express my interest in renting your place for six months and caring for your six-year-old child, as I will be visiting Australia..." However, there are several grammatical errors and awkward constructions, particularly run-on sentences, such as: "That will only be of few hours per day and I will be free afterwards and no classes on weekends, in this way I can gain experience..." Preposition and article errors are also present, such as "help in your kids homework" instead of "help with your child's homework." While these errors occasionally cause minor confusion, they do not impede overall communication.
