Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response covers all three bullet points required by the prompt, though the development is somewhat limited. You successfully explained why you want the job by mentioning your previous year of experience in child care, and you briefly stated how you would spend your free time by noting that you want to 'explore australia and see different views.' However, the details provided to support your suitability are quite brief and repetitive. Phrases such as 'I want the job because i have already done work' and 'I have so much experience' attempt to address the requirements, but the ideas lack depth and extension. To achieve a higher band score, you should expand on your specific childcare skills and elaborate more fully on your plans for Australia. Nevertheless, the purpose of the letter is clear, and all prompt requirements are touched upon, earning a Band 5.5.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The letter is divided into short paragraphs, attempting to structure different aspects of the prompt. However, the overall progression is disrupted by mechanical and faulty cohesive devices. For example, transitional phrases like 'Besides' and 'Eventully' are used awkwardly, and referencing is sometimes unclear, such as 'request about a advertisement' and 'give job to take care of six year child.' The paragraphing is rudimentary, with several very brief blocks of text rather than cohesive, fully developed paragraphs. While there is a basic logical flow moving from the introduction to reasons for applying and finally to free-time plans, the inadequate and inaccurate use of cohesive devices keeps this criterion at Band 5.0.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, frequently circling around simple terms like 'job', 'child', and 'experience'. There are also several lexical errors and inappropriate word choices, such as 'request about a advertisement', 'workly carefully', and 'have send you'. Spelling errors like 'Eventully' and capitalization issues like 'australian' further detract from the lexical quality. While the vocabulary is minimally adequate to communicate the basic message about looking after children and exploring Australia, the limited range and noticeable errors prevent the response from reaching a higher band. To improve, you should incorporate a wider variety of precise nouns, adjectives, and less common collocations related to childcare and travel.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response demonstrates a limited range of grammatical structures, relying mostly on simple sentences with occasional attempts at complex forms, such as 'I would appreciate it if you could give job to take care of six year child.' However, attempts at complex sentences are frequently marred by structural and grammatical errors, including missing articles ('a advertisement', 'six year child'), incorrect prepositions, and verb tense inconsistencies ('I have send you'). Punctuation and capitalization are also inconsistent throughout the letter. These frequent errors cause some difficulty for the reader and indicate that grammatical control is unsteady. A wider variety of error-free complex structures is needed to secure a higher band score.
