Student answer (Band 5.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing this letter with reference to your avertisement in Australian magazine for a requirement of a nanny for your six your child.
I have moved recently to this locality, and looking for a suitable job which suites to my experience, credentials, and interests. You child is at the stage of your life whereby he is going to learn to walk and speak soon, and I have been always fascinated to be part of this journey of kids.
I hold a degree in the nursing from the Sandsburn univeristy, and holds expereince of working as a nanny at a primary school. Therefore, I believe that I am a perfect match for this job. I very familiar with the culture, and local ethics of the community, which would help me to assimilate with your family very swiftly.
My parents live in the nearby town, and I would like to spare my free with them. They are currently living with my younger brother, and my this job would also support them financially. Furthermore, I am an active member of the community who work for kids with disabilities. This organisation helds ceremonies around the city to raise awareness to help such children; I would also take part in these campaigns of the organisation in my leisure time.
Should you require any additional information, please let me know. My contact details are attached herewith the letter.
Your faithfully,

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, covering why you would like the job, your suitability, and how you would spend your free time. However, the development of these ideas is limited and sometimes unclear. For example, your explanation regarding your free time mentions visiting your parents and supporting them financially, but it lacks clear extension. Furthermore, there are some inaccuracies in content details, such as mentioning that a six-year-old child is at the stage of learning to walk and speak, which does not quite fit a child of that age. To move to a higher band, ideas need to be more fully expanded and tailored logically to the specific requirements of the task.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
There is some basic organization with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion, and paragraphs are used to separate different topics. However, there is a lack of clear overall progression between your ideas. Cohesive devices are sometimes used mechanically or inaccurately, such as the abrupt transition in paragraph four starting with 'My parents live in the nearby town', which disrupts the smooth flow of information. Referencing is also occasionally unclear. To improve, you should ensure that sentences and paragraphs are linked more naturally with a wider range of appropriate cohesive ties that guide the reader clearly through your letter.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate your basic meaning, but the range is limited. You attempt some less common vocabulary items, such as 'assimilate' and 'credentials', but this leads to noticeable errors in word choice, spelling, and word form, such as writing 'avertisement' instead of 'advertisement', 'six your child' instead of 'six-year-old child', and 'Sandsburn univeristy'. These slips indicate a need for greater precision. To reach a higher level, you should aim to use a wider variety of vocabulary with greater accuracy in spelling, collocation, and word formation.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The text displays a limited range of sentence structures, relying heavily on simple forms and basic complex sentences. Your attempts at more complex structures are often faulty, featuring frequent errors in grammar and punctuation. Examples of errors include missing articles ('a degree in the nursing'), incorrect prepositions ('spare my free with them'), and issues with subject-verb agreement or pronoun usage ('and my this job would also support them'). These frequent errors can cause some difficulty for the reader. To improve, you need to demonstrate better control over complex grammatical structures and reduce the frequency of basic errors in articles, prepositions, and verb forms.
