Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response addresses the main parts of the task by mentioning why the writer wants the job, giving some personal details, and explaining how they would spend their free time, such as joining a nursing training center. However, the ideas remain limited and under-developed. For example, the explanation for wanting the job is brief and repetitive, stating simply 'I love me job. and I love to visit Australia.' The position is partially addressed, but the content lacks full expansion, and the development of ideas stalls quickly. To move to a higher band, the writer needs to provide more fully explained reasons and richer details about their background and plans.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
There is some basic organisation in the letter, separating the introduction, the details of experience, and the free time plans into short paragraphs. However, there is no clear overall progression, and the transitions between thoughts feel disjointed. Cohesive devices are largely inadequate or misused, such as the awkward transition 'Sir, rather then you hire some unprofessional person...' referencing is occasionally unclear, and the repetitive use of direct address ('Sir') creates a mechanical feel. To improve, the writer needs to logical sequence ideas with smoother linking words and manage paragraphing with clearer logical links.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for the task, with noticeable errors that occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. There are spelling mistakes such as 'advertisment' instead of advertisement, and word choice errors like 'I love me job' instead of my job. Less common items are attempted, but inaccuracies in word form and collocation, such as 'male nursing' and 'care worker certificate', restrict the lexical range. To achieve a higher band, the writer must expand their vocabulary range and use words more accurately, avoiding frequent spelling and lexical slips.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The writing shows a limited range of sentence structures, relying mostly on simple sentences with frequent errors. Attempts at complex or compound structures often become faulty, such as 'Sir, I you allow for me in my free time...', which contains confusing prepositions and missing verbs. Frequent errors are present across verb forms, tenses, and punctuation, for instance writing 'I just came from london like six months ago' and sentence fragments like 'because. I love me job.' These errors can cause some difficulty for the reader. To progress, the writer needs to demonstrate a greater variety of error-free sentence forms and improve control over basic grammar and punctuation rules.
