Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir,
I am writing this letter to apply for the position of live-in child helper that I saw an advertised in your magazine. I would very much like to spend six month in your house to look after your child.
I would like to do this job because I love to look after children and have experience in child-care for more than five years. I always enjoyed working with children. Moreover, I believe that six-year-olds are at a wonderful age and they are very energentic, curious and joyful by nature.
I would believe that I am suitable person to employ. I have younger brother whom I have looked after reguarly for many years,as my both parents are working in abroad for several years. In addition, I also certified nanny by governmnet of India and I also had a degree in Nursing healthcare, so I had experience how to handle children more gently.
I would spend my free time in australia by reading books about different cultures and exploring undiscovered part of the Sydney. Apart from that, in my free time I would live to meet my younger brother and parents. So, I could spend time with them.
I have attached my references and require documents with fill up form. I would be glad to attend interview online with you.
I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Yours faithfully,
Hani Kathiriya.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three requested points and maintain a clear purpose: applying for the role, explaining your childcare suitability, and describing how you would use your free time. Relevant support includes your five years of childcare experience, caring for your younger brother, and nursing qualification. The reasons for wanting the job are also clear, especially your interest in children and their energetic, curious nature. Some details are less fully developed: for example, “exploring undiscovered part of the Sydney” is not explained, and the plan to meet your family is unclear in the context of living in Australia. To strengthen the letter, explain more specifically what you hope to gain from the placement and how your experience would benefit this particular family.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a coherent overall arrangement, with separate paragraphs for your application, motivation, suitability, and free-time plans. Linking expressions such as “Moreover,” “In addition,” and “Apart from that” help show how ideas relate, and the closing is appropriate. However, some connections are mechanical, and the final paragraph combines free-time plans with application documents and an interview request, which weakens the progression. The reference in “So, I could spend time with them” is also not fully clear because the reader may wonder whether your family will be in Australia. Keep each paragraph focused on one purpose and make references explicit; for instance, clarify where your family lives and how you expect to meet them during the six-month stay.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including relevant terms such as “child-care,” “certified nanny,” “references,” and “interview.” There are also attempts at more descriptive language in “energetic, curious and joyful.” However, several spelling and word-choice errors reduce precision, including “energentic,” “reguarly,” “governmnet,” and “live” where “love” is intended. Some phrases are also unnatural or unclear, such as “undiscovered part of the Sydney” and “require documents with fill up form.” Aim for accurate spelling and more natural collocations, especially in formal application language. A careful proofreading pass and learning common phrases such as “completed application form” would make your vocabulary more reliable and professional.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and more complex sentences, including a reason clause (“because I love to look after children”) and a sentence beginning “as my both parents are working…”. The main message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors affect accuracy. Examples include “I would believe that I am suitable person,” which needs an article and a more appropriate verb form, and “I have younger brother whom I have looked after,” which also needs an article. Tense choices are inconsistent in “I also had a degree” and “I had experience,” where present qualifications and experience would normally be described with present forms. Review articles, verb tense, and sentence punctuation, and check that each sentence has a clear, complete structure.
