Student answer (Band 5.0)
Dear Sir or madam,
I am writing this to inquire regarding the job you advertised .
I would like to inform you that My name is Aakash and currently enrolled in child care diploma which is about to complete in the next month .However , I read in Australian magazine that you are searching for an employee to take care of your six -year-old-child and comfortable to live with you.I believe that I would be a suitable candidate for that post as I am also searching for job and accomodation and have child care experience.
I will appreciate if you can consider me for that role and I will be available for an interview as per your convenience .In addition to this , I am planning to continue my studies for the next six months in the same city which is mainly online and I can utilise my leisure time in a better way.
Yours sincerely ,
Aakash

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
The letter identifies the advertised childcare role and gives a basic reason for applying: you are seeking both work and accommodation, and you are studying childcare. However, the task is addressed only minimally because key details are missing or unclear. You mention having childcare experience but provide no example or explanation of why this makes you suitable for caring for a six-year-old. The free-time point is also incomplete: continuing online studies is mentioned, but you do not explain how you would spend leisure time in Australia. Develop each point with specific details, such as relevant duties you have performed and activities you hope to enjoy locally, while making your reasons for wanting the position clearer.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response follows a recognisable letter format, with an opening, a central paragraph and a closing, and the ideas are broadly related to the application. However, the progression is limited: the central paragraph combines your introduction, the advertisement, your suitability and your reasons for applying, while the final paragraph moves between availability, an interview and future studies without clearly separating the task points. Linking phrases such as “However” and “In addition to this” are used, but they do not always show a clear relationship between ideas. Organise the letter into focused paragraphs—motivation, suitability, and free-time plans—and use straightforward transitions to guide the reader.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough vocabulary to communicate the general purpose of the letter, including relevant terms such as “child care diploma,” “suitable candidate,” “accommodation” and “interview.” There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, for example “I am writing this to inquire” and “as per your convenience.” However, some expressions are awkward or imprecise, which limits naturalness: “inquire regarding the job” and “comfortable to live with you” do not express the intended meaning smoothly. Spelling and presentation also need attention, including “accomodation.” Aim for accurate, natural collocations and precise wording when describing your experience, living arrangements and plans.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The letter includes both simple statements and some longer sentence forms, and the main message is generally understandable. However, control is uneven, particularly in longer sentences. For example, “currently enrolled in child care diploma” lacks a subject and article, while “I read in Australian magazine that you are searching” has article and tense problems. The sentence beginning “I believe that I would be a suitable candidate” also joins several ideas without a clear grammatical structure. Punctuation and capitalisation are inconsistent, as in “My” after a comma and spaces before full stops. Practise complete sentence structures, articles, and consistent punctuation, then check each sentence for a clear subject and verb.
