Student answer (Band 5.0)

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing to apply for the application you posted in Australian magazine a week ago.I am willing to stay for the given period of time and look after your six-year-old child, While I pursue my education in the city.

I am Moving to Melbourne in next week for higher education. While I was looking for a plcae to live, which would be budget friendly for myself, I came across your advetisement. I am an eighteen years old male. Having two younger siblling myself, I would be a perfect candidate, to help in looking after your young child. I am great with kids and I understand how to deal with kids resposibly.

I have hybrid class schedule and only have to be present in class only twice a week in the evening time. Consequently, I will be able to spend more quality time with all the members and especially the child to make a meaningful bond.

Stating all the things, I believe, I would be a sustainable choice for you.

Thank you for consideration. Looking forward to your response at your earliest convinience.

Your's Faithfully,

Milan Vadgama.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

The letter responds to the advertisement and gives relevant reasons for applying: you are moving to Melbourne for education, need affordable accommodation, and have experience with younger siblings. However, the task is addressed only minimally because the free-time point is not answered: your class schedule and intention to spend time with the family describe availability, not what you would do in Australia during your own free time. Suitability is also asserted more than demonstrated; “I am great with kids” would be stronger with a specific example of caring for your siblings. The closing claim that you are a “sustainable choice” is unclear. Address all three requested points directly and support your suitability with concrete details.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable letter format and is divided into paragraphs, with the application, personal background and schedule presented in a broadly sensible order. Linking expressions such as “While” and “Consequently” help connect some ideas. However, progression is not consistently clear: the opening combines applying, staying and pursuing education in a sentence that is difficult to follow, and the final paragraph does not clearly introduce a new point. Some connections are mechanical or imprecise, particularly “Stating all the things,” and the reference to spending time “with all the members” is not fully explained. Use one paragraph for each requested point and make the links between reasons explicit.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough vocabulary to communicate the main circumstances and intentions, including “higher education,” “hybrid class schedule” and “meaningful bond.” There are also attempts at more formal expressions, such as “candidate” and “consideration.” However, several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or unclear: “apply for the application” is redundant, “budget friendly for myself” is awkward, and “sustainable choice” does not convey the intended meaning. Spelling errors such as “plcae,” “advetisement,” “resposibly” and “convinience” are noticeable and reduce control. Choose simpler, precise phrases where needed, and proofread spelling and common collocations before submitting.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The letter includes both simple sentences and attempts at more complex structures, for example “Having two younger siblings myself, I would be a perfect candidate” and the sentence beginning “While I was looking for a place to live.” Meaning is generally recoverable, but errors in sentence boundaries, capitalisation and punctuation occur throughout. The opening has a run-on after “ago,” and “While” is incorrectly capitalised mid-sentence; “I am Moving” also uses an unnecessary capital. There are awkward or incomplete constructions, including “While I pursue my education in the city” and “I have hybrid class schedule.” Aim for complete, clearly punctuated sentences, check articles such as “a hybrid class schedule,” and avoid attaching introductory clauses without a clear main clause.
