Student answer (Band 5.0)

Dear Sir,

I am writing this letter to show my intrest in job posted in The Australian Time magazine, for the post of nanny position in your home.

Firstly, as a care taker I have experience withe these works. I have worked in meternity care hospital for one year. I would like to apply for that post because of experience i have and want to take care of baby at home.

During my employment time at meternity care hospital, I have learned how to take care of baby, how to play, how to make them happy. Furthermore, I can help with the households while you are away for work. I can cooking, cleaning and laundry as well, which is plus point. After you return from work i will give you brief about what work I have completed during day time. After dinner I will take your child for outing and for some shopping as well.

I hope you like my portfolio which I have e-mailed to you.

I would like to expect positive replay from you.

Thanking you,

Yours sincerely,

Rutik Patel

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

You explain your interest in the nanny role and give relevant evidence of suitability, especially your year working in a maternity-care hospital and your willingness to help with household tasks. However, the response only partially fulfils the task: it does not explain how you would spend your free time in Australia. The proposed outing and shopping are described as activities with the child after dinner, so they do not clearly answer that point. Some details, such as wanting to care for a “baby,” are also not tailored to the advertised six-year-old. Address every bullet directly and develop your reasons with specific, relevant details.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The letter has a recognisable structure, with an opening, body paragraphs and a closing, and sequencing words such as “Firstly” and “Furthermore” help connect some points. However, the progression is not consistently clear: the paragraph about hospital experience moves quickly from childcare skills to household duties and then to reporting on the day. The final sentences about the portfolio and expecting a reply feel abrupt and are not smoothly linked to the main message. Use separate paragraphs for your motivation, qualifications and free-time plans, and connect each idea with clear references rather than relying mainly on basic linking words.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant vocabulary for the situation, including “nanny,” “maternity care hospital,” “take care of” and “laundry,” so the reader can generally understand your purpose. However, the range is limited and several spelling or word-choice errors are noticeable, such as “intrest,” “meternity,” “replay” and “portfolio” where a job application would more naturally refer to a CV. Phrases such as “these works” and “plus point” are also awkward or imprecise. Build a wider set of accurate expressions for childcare experience, household responsibilities and leisure plans, and check spelling and collocations carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and longer sentence forms, for example, “Furthermore, I can help with the households while you are away for work.” However, the range is limited, and errors occur frequently enough to make some sentences awkward. Examples include “I can cooking,” which needs a verb form such as “I can cook,” and “After you return from work i will give you brief,” which needs an article and consistent capitalisation. “I would like to expect positive replay from you” is also not grammatically well formed. Practise modal verb patterns, articles, sentence punctuation and accurate construction of polite requests; these will make your meaning clearer and more professional.
