Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir,
I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing in response to your advertisement for seeking someone to live with your family and look after your child.
Due to financial issues,I would be interested in taking on this job to cover my living expenses and tution fees.
Fortunately, I have experienced in both cooking and cleaning. During my last summer break, I worked at family resturant for two months, where I learned how to prepare Italian and Asian cuisines.
Moreover, I am very good with children because I also have worked with children during summer camps. As a primary school teacher, I know how to tackle toddlers by engaging them in productive activities.
Please note that I am new in Australia therefore, during my free time, I would love to explore new places. Additionally, I will take my driving classes on weekends.
Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any question.
Yours sincerely,
Samra Javed

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three requested points: financial reasons for wanting the role, relevant experience with food preparation and children, and plans to explore Australia and take driving lessons. The examples of summer-camp work and teaching make your suitability relevant, and the purpose of the letter is clear. However, some points are less fully developed than others. For instance, you mention covering living expenses and tuition fees but do not explain what attracts you to living with a family or caring for this particular child. Your free-time plans are also brief. To strengthen the response, add a specific detail about how you would enjoy family life or support the child, and expand on what you hope to see or do in Australia.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall arrangement: you introduce your purpose, describe your experience, and then discuss your plans in Australia. Paragraphing helps distinguish these points, and transitions such as “Moreover” and “Additionally” make the sequence easy to follow. The progression is generally logical, though some linking feels mechanical, and the opening moves quickly from the advertisement to financial need. The phrase “Please note that I am new in Australia therefore” also joins ideas awkwardly, making the relationship between them less smooth. Use a wider range of natural transitions and connect related ideas more clearly—for example, explain how your experience would help you care for the child before moving to your personal plans.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the letter, including relevant terms such as “living expenses,” “summer camps,” “productive activities,” and “explore new places.” These choices communicate your experience and intentions clearly. There are also some inaccurate or unnatural expressions that limit precision: “advertisement for seeking someone” is awkward, “family resturant” contains a spelling error and is not the natural phrase, and “tackle toddlers” has an unsuitable meaning in this context. “Tuition fees” is also misspelled. Aim for more natural collocations and check spelling carefully; precise phrases such as “advertisement seeking a caregiver” and “engage children in constructive activities” would make the letter sound more fluent and professional.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, including a relative clause in “where I learned how to prepare…” and a reason clause beginning “because.” Most of the message remains clear, but some grammatical and punctuation errors are present. For example, “I have experienced in both cooking and cleaning” needs a different verb pattern, while “I also have worked” has an awkward placement of “also.” In “I am new in Australia therefore,” the clauses need clearer punctuation or a linking structure. There are also missing spaces after commas and inconsistent punctuation. Review verb patterns, adverb placement, and sentence boundaries, while continuing to use varied structures.
