Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing to express my strong interest in a job that you posted in a magazine.

Recently, I moved to Australia and I am looking for a role in early education or child care industry. I saw an advertisement that you are also offering accommodation along with job. I believe that would be really helpful to me.

Apart from that, I have experience in daycare for 3 years. Similarly, I have also gained experience in teaching. Moreover, I like to take care of children. Hence, I think that it would be grateful for me to take care of your six-year-old child. While spending time with children, I generally play with them and also encourage them to do different activities which help them to become creative. In Australia, I spend my free time doing workouts in gym and running in park. Nevertheless, I also like to go the library.

I have attached my resume to this letter and I am waiting for your response.

Yours sincerely,

Neel Patel

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address all three points: you explain that the accommodation would help you, describe three years of daycare experience and teaching, and mention exercise, running and library visits as ways to spend your free time. These details make the letter relevant and give the parents a clear outline of your interest. However, some points are less fully developed than others. The reason for wanting this particular six-month role could be clearer, and your suitability would be more convincing with a specific example of caring for or teaching a child. The free-time section is also brief. Develop these ideas with a little more detail while keeping the focus on what the parents need to know.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The letter has a clear overall arrangement: you introduce your interest, explain your experience and activities, then close with a request for a response. Paragraphing helps separate these stages, and linking expressions such as “Moreover” and “Hence” show how some ideas relate. At times, however, the connections feel mechanical or do not express the relationship precisely. “Similarly” does not clearly show how teaching experience relates to daycare experience, while “Nevertheless” introduces library visits as if they contrast with your other hobbies. Group related information and use simpler, more exact transitions. A separate paragraph for your free-time plans would also make the progression easier to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the letter, including relevant terms such as “early education,” “daycare,” “accommodation” and “creative.” The reader can understand your main points, and you attempt some less common expressions. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, which limits precision: “it would be grateful for me” does not express your intended meaning, and “experience in daycare for 3 years” could be phrased more naturally. “Go the library” is also missing the usual preposition. Choose familiar, accurate expressions rather than forcing formal wording, and check that verbs and nouns combine naturally. This will make your interest and qualifications sound more confident.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, including “I believe that would be really helpful to me” and a relative clause in “activities which help them to become creative.” Most of the message remains understandable, and errors rarely obstruct meaning. Some grammatical issues remain, however. In “I saw an advertisement that you are also offering accommodation,” the tense and clause structure are awkward; “I saw an advertisement saying that you offer accommodation” would be clearer. “I like to go the library” needs “to” before “the library,” and “experience in daycare for 3 years” would benefit from a more accurate grammatical pattern. Continue practising clause construction, prepositions and natural tense choices.
