Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing in response to the advertisment in xyz magazine.
I have read in the advertisment that your are looking for someone, who can live within family and take care of your six year old child. I would like to take this job because I have been baby sitting in my neighbourhood since I was 16 years old. While most of the time I was babysitting toddlers, I am very well aware of the crucial needs of a Gradeschoolars aswell.
Moreover, I recently graduated from Early childhood education course. Which prepares me to take care of children as young as 12 months and upto 8 years old. Additionally, My calm, loving personality allows me to understand a children's needs and act accordingly.
If i get hired, I would like to spent my freetime in Australia learning and exploring new regions. Being a Nature loving person, I enjoy my free time studying about flora and fauna of a place.
Thank you for your consideration. I hope i would hear from you soon.
Yours Sincerely,
John.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three points in the prompt: you explain your interest through your babysitting experience, describe your early-childhood education and personal qualities, and mention exploring nature in Australia. These details are relevant and make your suitability clear. The experience and qualification are the strongest parts, while your plans for free time are less developed: “learning and exploring new regions” and studying local flora and fauna could be made more specific with an example of an activity or place. The letter also has an appropriate opening and closing. To strengthen the response further, develop each point more evenly and make the reason for wanting this particular six-month role more explicit.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall arrangement: it opens with the purpose, moves to your experience and qualifications, then discusses free time before closing politely. Paragraphing helps the reader follow these stages, and connectors such as “Moreover” and “Additionally” show how your supporting details relate. However, the progression within the suitability paragraph is somewhat mechanical, and the sentence beginning “Which prepares me…” is not smoothly connected to the qualification it refers to. The final paragraph is also brief compared with the earlier discussion. Use clearer links between related ideas and develop the final point a little more to make the organisation feel more consistently controlled.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range for the letter, including relevant terms such as “Early childhood education,” “calm,” “loving,” and “flora and fauna.” These choices communicate your experience and interests, and some vocabulary is more specific than basic everyday language. There are, however, several spelling and word-choice problems, including “advertisment,” “Gradeschoolars,” and “freetime.” Some expressions are also unnatural or imprecise, such as “live within family” and “crucial needs of a Gradeschoolars.” These do not prevent understanding, but they limit the accuracy and naturalness of the vocabulary. Check spelling carefully and choose conventional phrases for childcare and family arrangements.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and more complex sentences, including the contrast in “While most of the time I was babysitting toddlers…” and the conditional “If I get hired, I would like…”. The main message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors occur. For example, “your are looking” has an incorrect verb form, “Which prepares me…” is a sentence fragment, and “understand a children's needs” has an incorrect possessive structure. The conditional also needs consistent forms: “If I were hired, I would like to spend…”. Capitalisation and punctuation are inconsistent in places. Practise checking sentence boundaries, agreement, articles and conditional patterns while retaining your attempts at complex structures.
