Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Madam,
I saw an advertisement in the magazine to take care of a six year old child. I am writing this letter to express my interest in childcare job.
I would love to do this job because I enjoy spending time with childrens. I want to gain international childcare experience and I would like to explore Australian culture and tradition while working.
I believe that my previously experirnce make me suitable candidate for this position, because, in past, I usually looked after my younger siblings. I am a responsible and friendly nature. I can help childrens in their homework and daily activities. I can also cook some healthy meals for them.
During my liesure time, I intend to explore Australian attractions and learn culture. I will visit museums and historical places. In addition, I would like to improve my English communication skills.
Thank you for considering my application. I will look forward to your response.
Yours faithfully,
Ahmad

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three points in the task: you explain your interest in childcare and Australian culture, describe experience caring for younger siblings and helping with homework and meals, and outline plans to visit museums and historical places. These details make your application relevant and clear. The reasons for wanting the job and your suitability are convincing at a basic level, but they are not developed equally: for example, you could explain what you learned from caring for your siblings or give a specific example of how you would support a six-year-old. The free-time plans are also quite general. More specific supporting details would make the letter feel more fully developed and persuasive.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall arrangement, with separate paragraphs for your motivation, suitability, and free-time plans. This makes the main points easy to locate, and linking phrases such as “In addition” help connect ideas. The progression is generally logical, from introducing your interest to closing the application. However, some connections are basic or repetitive, particularly the repeated use of “I would like” and “I can.” The opening could also connect more smoothly to the purpose of the letter, and the suitability paragraph would benefit from a clearer sequence linking your past experience to the skills you offer. Varying transitions and using more precise references would make the cohesion less mechanical.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including relevant terms such as “childcare experience,” “responsible,” “daily activities,” and “historical places.” There are also attempts to use more specific language about the role and your plans. However, several noticeable word-choice, spelling, and collocation errors reduce naturalness: “childrens” should be “children,” “previously experirnce” is incorrectly formed and spelled, and “explore Australian culture and tradition” would sound more natural with a plural form for “tradition.” “Liesure” is also misspelled. These errors do not prevent understanding, but careful proofreading and learning common collocations would improve precision and control.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple sentences and some longer structures, including a reason clause with “because” and a sentence beginning “In addition.” Most of the message remains understandable, and the letter’s basic sentence patterns are controlled. Some grammatical errors persist, however. In “my previously experirnce make me suitable candidate,” the subject–verb agreement is incorrect, and the sentence needs an article before “suitable candidate.” “I am a responsible and friendly nature” also has an incorrect sentence structure; you could write “I am responsible and friendly.” There are further issues with plural forms and article use. To improve, check agreement, noun phrases, and sentence patterns, while continuing to practise a wider range of accurate complex sentences.
