Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 5.0)
dear mam,
I am writing this letter in regard of the advertisment posted in the magazine. as i am a immigrant here and planing for my permanent residance through this field.
Taking care of a 6 year old child is very difficult and responsible job. although i don't have expierence living in a family but i am certified child caretaker and have a prior experience of 1.5 year. when i was in my homecountry i use to take care of my younger sister when my parents were out at job.
Australia is beautiful country, it has numerous places to visit. Beside that i would prefer to spend my free time with your family so that i could know more about your culture, following and your daily routine, which would help to take care.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You address the three requested points: you explain your interest in the job, mention childcare qualifications and experience, and describe possible free-time activities. However, the reasons are brief and not fully developed; for example, “I am a immigrant here” does not clearly explain why this particular position appeals to you. Your suitability is supported by relevant details, including certification and caring for your sister, but you could explain your responsibilities or strengths more specifically. The free-time point is also limited to visiting places and spending time with the family. The response is 13 words below the required minimum, so it needs more detail to meet the task fully. Use the requested opening, “Dear Sir or Madam,” and include a suitable closing.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The letter has a basic sequence: it introduces the advertisement, discusses childcare experience, and then turns to free time. This gives the reader some sense of the intended structure. However, the ideas within paragraphs are not always connected clearly, and the response lacks a clear closing. Linking phrases such as “Taking care of…” and “Beside that” signal transitions, but the latter does not connect the ideas naturally, and the final “in regard” is incomplete. Separate the three task points into clear paragraphs and use accurate, simple transitions such as “In addition” or “During my free time.” A conventional sign-off would also make the letter feel complete.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “certified child caretaker,” “prior experience,” and “culture,” which helps communicate your main points. The range is nevertheless limited, and several spelling and word-choice errors make the letter less clear or natural, such as “advertisment,” “expierence,” and “following” where you appear to mean customs or traditions. Some phrases are also awkward, including “planing for my permanent residance through this field.” Choose precise expressions for your motivation and childcare skills, and check spelling carefully. A few more specific terms—such as “supervise,” “daily routine,” or “child development”—could help you describe your suitability more effectively.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response includes simple sentences and attempts some longer structures, for example, “although i don't have expierence living in a family but i am certified…” However, this construction is faulty because “although” and “but” should not be used together in this way. Errors in articles, verb forms, and sentence boundaries occur frequently: “Australia is beautiful country” needs an article, and “i use to take care” should be “I used to take care.” Capitalisation and punctuation are also inconsistent, particularly at sentence beginnings. These errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the main message, but they make it less fluent. Practise accurate simple sentences first, then build longer sentences using one clear linking structure.
