Student answer (Band 5.0)

Dear Sir/Madam,

I hope you are doing well, I recently saw your add on newspaper that you are looking for someone who can do take care of your child as well as can stay with you. After seeing this add, I think I am a perfect match whom you are looking for.

As, I recently moved to Australia for my higher studies and since the date I arrived here I am just missing my family because I do not know anyone in this country and due to this I am getting homesickness. Moreover, I love playing with children and I also have a couisn who is just 9 months old and due to this I am well aware of how to take care of kids.

So, If you will allow me to stay with you for six months, it will help both of us and I will spend my free time after my studies with your kid, so that we both enjoy and live together.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Yours sincerely

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You address the main purpose of the letter and explain that you want the position because you miss your family and enjoy spending time with children. You also mention caring for your nine-month-old cousin, which is relevant evidence of experience. However, the suitability point is only briefly supported, and the free-time plan is not fully answered: saying you would spend time with the child after your studies does not explain what you would do in Australia more broadly. The request to stay with the family is clear, but the letter would be more complete if you described practical childcare strengths and specific leisure interests, such as exploring local places or joining activities.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The letter has a recognisable structure, with an opening, reasons for applying, and a closing, and the ideas are generally understandable. Paragraphing helps separate the introduction from your reasons. However, progression is limited: the second paragraph combines homesickness, family background, and childcare experience, while the final paragraph joins the accommodation request and free-time plan in one long sentence. Some linking is mechanical or awkward, particularly “Moreover” and “So,” and the opening sentence runs two ideas together. Organise the content around the three requested points, using a separate paragraph for suitability and another for free-time plans, with clearer links between sentences.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough basic vocabulary to communicate the main message, including “higher studies,” “homesickness,” and “take care of your child.” However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, which makes parts of the letter less natural. For example, “your add on newspaper” is not the usual expression, and “a perfect match whom you are looking for” is awkward. There are also spelling errors such as “couisn,” and “enjoy and live together” does not clearly express your intended meaning. Aim for precise, natural phrases for applying, childcare experience, and leisure activities, and check spelling carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt some longer sentences and use clauses to explain reasons, but complex structures are often faulty, and errors sometimes make the reader pause. The opening has a comma splice: “I hope you are doing well, I recently saw…” should be divided or joined with a suitable conjunction. Other examples include “As, I recently moved,” “I think I am a perfect match whom you are looking for,” and “If you will allow me,” where punctuation, clause structure, or verb forms need correction. The sentence beginning “So, If…” also contains an unnecessary capital and joins several ideas without clear control. Practise accurate sentence boundaries and conditional forms alongside simpler, reliable sentences.
