Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 5.5)
Dear sir,
I am writing this letter after reading your advertisement in an australian magazine for someone to live with you and take care of your six-year-old child.
Firstly, my name is Kiran and and i have been here in australia since very long time. i had studied in child care from melborne university and graduate with good marks. i have experience of taking care of child and i love to spend more time with them. I do not look this as job but i am very interested and it is one of my hobby to take care of them.
I am very quite and very clear in my mind. I would like to take care of your child as my own child. Even, i am a mother of two kids and I am very polite and helpfull in nature. I am not just taking care of child but also helping whole family in different activites like shopping, cleaning and gardening as well. I have never been with any australian family in my life and i want to explore how an australian family lives and want to spend time with them and involve myself in their culture as well
Moreover, I would like to tell you how would i spend time with my loved ones. I would like to visit different places where old age and young people come and seat and spend time together. I generally visit my relatives home and just be with them and enjoy with them. I go out with my friends and do something fun activities like hiking, watching movies and playing sports and many more.
I would feel grateful if you consider my application. I look forward to hearing from you soon and discuss in details about position.
Yours faithfully,
Kiran

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You address the three requested points: you explain your interest in childcare, describe relevant study and experience, and mention activities you would enjoy in Australia. Your childcare qualification, experience, and role as a mother are relevant reasons to consider you. However, some details are unclear or do not directly answer the prompt. For example, “I have been here in Australia since very long time” does not explain why you want this particular six-month position, and the paragraph about visiting places where people “come and seat” is difficult to connect to your free-time plans. Develop your motivation and suitability more specifically, and make the free-time examples clearer. The response covers the task, but several ideas remain limited or under-explained.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The letter has a recognisable structure, with separate paragraphs for your background, suitability, free time, and closing. Sequencing words such as “Firstly” and “Moreover” help signal movement between points. However, progression is sometimes unclear: the paragraph beginning “Moreover” shifts to free time, but “my loved ones” and the later reference to visiting places are not clearly linked to your plans while in Australia. Some connections between sentences are also abrupt, and repeated use of “and” makes the writing feel list-like. Use clearer topic sentences and connect each example explicitly to the relevant point. A more consistent progression within paragraphs would make the letter easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use enough vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including relevant terms such as “child care,” “experience,” “culture,” and “hiking.” However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations sound unnatural or make meaning unclear. For instance, “I do not look this as job” does not express your intended attitude clearly, while “old age and young people come and seat” is difficult to interpret. There are also spelling and word-form errors, including “melborne,” “helpfull,” and “activites.” Choose more precise phrases and check spelling carefully; for example, explain that you are interested in the role because you enjoy caring for children and want to experience family life in Australia.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt some longer sentences, but control is inconsistent, and errors occur frequently enough to make parts of the letter difficult to read. Examples include “i have been here in australia since very long time,” “i had studied in child care,” and “I look forward to hearing from you soon and discuss in details.” These show problems with tense, articles, and verb patterns. Sentence boundaries and capitalisation are also unreliable, as in “Firstly, my name is Kiran and and i…” Try to use accurate simple sentences as a foundation, then add longer structures only when you can control them. Proofread for subject–verb forms, articles, and the correct form of verbs after expressions such as “look forward to.”
