Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to express my interest to live with your family as I read advertisement you posted in Australian magazine last week on 15 October that you need a person to look after your six-year-old child for six months.
I would like to tell that I am a part time student of Early Childcare education in Melbourne University and the job offer you posted perfectly match my skills and will also help me to start my career. Moreover , I also have 2 years experience as a Childcare management in pre-school before my studies which makes me more suitable for this role .
In my free time, I would like to explore Melbourne, especially its parks and beaches, at weekends. I enjoy swimming, so I would also like to join a local pool. In the evenings, I will study for a couple of hours to continue my course.
I am looking for your response .
Yours faithfully,
Aakash

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three requested points: you explain that the role matches your childcare studies and could help your career, give relevant experience in a preschool, and describe exploring Melbourne, swimming, and studying in the evenings. These details make the letter relevant and show a clear purpose. The suitability point is the strongest because you provide both current study and two years of experience. However, the reasons for wanting the job and your plans for free time are only briefly explained; for example, you could say what attracts you to living with a family or how your childcare experience would benefit their child. The response covers the task well overall, but fuller development would make it more complete and persuasive.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall arrangement: an opening that identifies the job, a paragraph about your interest and suitability, a paragraph on free-time plans, and a polite closing. The ideas are easy to follow, and phrases such as “Moreover” and “In my free time” help signal the progression. Some connections are a little mechanical, however, and the first paragraph combines several details in one long sentence. The transition from your studies to your previous experience could also be smoother. Use paragraphing consistently and connect each point more naturally—for instance, explain how your studies and practical experience together prepare you for the role. This would make the organisation feel more fluent.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the letter, including relevant terms such as “Early Childcare education,” “pre-school,” “suitable,” and “explore.” The reader can understand your intentions throughout. Some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “express my interest to live,” “a person to look after,” and “Childcare management as a” description of your experience. There are also small presentation issues, including inconsistent capitalisation of “childcare” and spacing before punctuation. Aim for more natural phrases such as “apply for the live-in childcare position” and “two years’ experience working in a preschool.” More precise collocations would make your language sound more confident and professional.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and more developed sentence forms, and most of the message remains clear. For example, the sentence beginning “I enjoy swimming, so I would also like to join a local pool” combines ideas effectively. Some grammatical errors remain, including the missing article in “I read advertisement” and the agreement error in “the job offer … perfectly match my skills.” The opening sentence is also overloaded, making its structure harder to control. Check articles, subject–verb agreement, and sentence boundaries; splitting that opening into two sentences would help. The closing phrase “I am looking for your response” also needs a more natural grammatical form, such as “I look forward to hearing from you.”
